Knitted jacket or coat
Black Silk Tent: Refashion #3
So, I decided my Monday morning would be well spent finishing off the refashion of this leftover pant leg. I started out by ripping open the seam (my neckline) to create a V.
I followed this by trimming up the 'straps', finishing everything off and taking in the sides a bit. And now I've got a nice casual silk tank.
I still had the waistband from the original pants laying around, so I closed up the bottom edge and buttoned it around my waist for a much more figure-flattering look...this is my favorite.
And here's the before and after:

Wanna see the full progression these pants took? Take a look! I love that I got 3 new pieces for $4 :).

Legs become arms!
Hello! My name is Eri, and I'm a student from New Zealand.
I LOVE clothes. So much. However, my style is constantly changing, so rather than spend all my (non-existent) money, I've started making my own clothes from op shop finds and pieces I already have.
I look forward to sharing ideas, and learning from all of you!
I liked these leggings so much I bought two pairs. The first pair were worn to death, but this pair were in pretty good condition apart from being a bit stretched out. The seams at the crotch were coming apart which made them perfect for this one-step refashion.
Laid out flat I cut a triangle out (through both sides), turned it upside down, and wore it!
The greatest thing about this is not needing to finish the neckline (although you could) as the cut jersey will just roll under when you stretch it gently! I also like how the elastic at the top becomes the new cropped waist.
It's a bit late here in NZ for crop tops, so I'm more likely to wear it under sleeveless dresses, like this:
Thank you so much for having me here! Any feedback would be fab.

A pleating affair
There are clothes that are literally asking for refashions...It was the case for my large pleated knitted sweater here:
So many pleats, so much fabric...
My today upcycling is really not time consuming. I did not even use my sewing machine, but for me it is very effective as now I am going to wear the sweater far more often than before.
So, I cut one side seam, I turned the sweater by 90°, I insert a ribbon and I attached the sides of the neckline to get a cape/sweater/hoodie like this:
The whole process is pictured here. Time to wear it now...
Denim Cut-off Skirt
I only had time this weekend for a quickie project. So I grabbed a pair of jeans I've had for a couple years now...
...and turned them into a cute denim skirt!

Knitted refashion of a vest
I was just not happy with the length of the straps on this People Tree vest. So I frogged the straps and knit new straps by knitting a new garter stitch neckline and sleeve edge.
Check out more before and after images on my blog.
I am trying to collect knitted refashions or in other words, refashions done by knitting instead of sewing, dyeing and other methods. I have set up a Pinterest board which I love other's to join. Email me if you are interested or if you have experience with knitted refashions (even though you may not blog about it).
Thanks,
Eddie :-)
Toddler Sock Monkey Costume (with link to tutorial)
My last costume to share, is not from this year. It was actually the one I made my daughter last year. I haven't blogged about it until last Halloween when I did a guest post with a tutorial.
Since I hosted a little Carnival series this year in my own blog, I brought that post home and today I am sharing it here with you too, in case you haven't seen it before.
This one costed me 2€... 1€ for each sweater I bougth. One in grey (men's) and one in red (women's).
Unfortunately back then, I forget to take photos of the before. But you can see a full tutorial on how I made it. If you have a little sock monkey lover, it is guaranteed to be a big hit. Mine loved hers so much, that even though it was a bit too short, she requested to wear it again this Carnival.

Another bonus from this refashion was that G. was wearing the new sweater all through winter. Without the hat and the pants it looks pretty normal, no costumy at all.
Quickie DIY Marc by Marc Jacobs Top Refashion
I bought a Marc by Marc Jacobs top through an online "previously loved" threadflipping clothing website. My size. Love the colors. I can wear it with lots of things I have in my wardrobe. Figure flattering.
It came in, and it looked great. The "girls" look fantastic, but the arms... Meh... the elastic and sleeve length was not great. So, out came the seam ripper.
No more elastic..... So much better. I love it now!

Old Jacket. New Look.
I had an old suit jacket/blazer that has just been hanging my closet for years because it just looked frumpy, but I had too many memories with it to get rid of it, so I decided to give it a new look.
All I thought it needed was a new neckline. So I created a V and took it from a four-button to a two-button jacket. (I also repair the fallen cuff on the right sleeve.)
This was much easier than I originally anticipated. I might make some tweaks before I actually wear it. You can see the step-by-step and a bit of the story behind this jacket on my blog, ProbablyRachel.

Refashioning Daddy's shirt for Daddy's Boy!
I started with one of Daddy's old t-shirts.
Just a plain old white t-shirt! But from it, Daddy's boy got 2 shirts!
Here you can read about where I refashioned it into this shirt and how I accomplished my first iron on transfer for this shirt, as preparation for making a skirt for his sister!

And I used the rest of Daddy's t-shirt here to make my first reverse appliquéd hoodie. This also was in preparation for sister's outfit! But this Daddy's boy is sure glad to be the guinea pig and wear the new shirts as I test out different techniques! Two shirts from one old cast away of Daddy's= one happy boy!
Make it beautiful,
Audrey
P.S. Have you read about all the fun with Challenge Create: Adult Edition that's going to start Monday over at Skirt Fixation? It involves prizes! And refashions!
Black Silk Tent: Refashion #2
Remember these silk pants? Well, they are the gift that keeps on giving as I move onto refashion #2 from these bad boys. The first was these shorts I posted here.
This time, I took one of the leftover legs and by following the shape that it already had from cutting out the shorts, I transformed it into a low-backed top!
For the step-by-step and a look at a new hem that I've FINALLY learned (baby/rolled hem without special foot) hop on over to my blog.
Here's a look at the before, middle and after :).
And I still have one leg left to use, so I'll be posting that once I finish it up!
Peace,
Andrea
From Scarf to Downton-inspired dress
I thrifted this silk/rayon devore velvet (cut velvet) scarf last
month at my local thrift store for $3.99. After watching a few
episodes of the new season of Downton Abbey, I made it into a Downtown-inspired dress (with the help of a long slip).
From this scarf - (fold it into a quarter of the size and cut a hole on the top for the head):
To this dress - add a ruby long slip and a self-made satin belt:
What do you think? Is it too costume-like to go out for dinner dressed like this?

Sweater Tights into Leg Warmers
I bought this particular pair of sweater tights in high school, and they've served me well for many years. Over time, they've slowly stretched out, and saggy tights are not a good look! Luckily, I had other plans in mind for them.
Because I have slender legs, wearing boots is a bit tricky. They're fine over skinny jeans, but
when I want to wear them with a dress or skirt, there tends to be a lot of gaping in the calf area.
I typically wear leg warmers (or long, thick socks) to fill the gap, and I figured I could use
another pair, so I set to work on what may be the shortest refashion I've ever done:
(Note: I forgot to take a before picture, so I photographed a similar pair of tights instead. Sorry!)

T-shirt to girl boatneck dress with her stencil
Hi all,
Love!
Here in this part of the world is in the school summer break. My girl want to participate in any project I would make for her. Here comes the kid's stencil plus mommy's refashion.
We've started with the plain white t-shirt. My favorite strated material.
My part is to cut and sew it. I used the beachy boatneck pattern from blank slate pattern. The bottom hem was added to add the color to the dress.
Then it comes the fun part for my girl, we selected the cute rabbit outline from internet. I use the freezer paper to created the stencil and let her painted by herself. And we got this adorable & comfortable dress. The girl is so pround of herself in her new stencil outfit.
I was also having fun stencil my own plain t-shirt for my pregnancy as well. Freezer paper stencil is so easy and fun!

Once in a Blue Moon...Retro Refashion
This is the first post of my new and ongoing series "Retro Runway." This is where I will post refashions that have a retro vibe from the 50's and 60's, maybe even the 40's. I love the fashions from those decades! For this first refashion, I began with this dress...
I drew inspiration from these two vintage patterns...
And, this is what I ended up with...
For more pictures, and a step-by-step tutorial of the process you can visit my blog,
