My starting point for this top was a 100% linen large men's shirt which had been in my stash since the refashioners 2015 challenge.
I liked the colour and the fact that it was really big. It cost £3.49 from a Salvation Army shop and looked barely worn.
I cut off the sleeves and shoulders, turned it back to front, sewed up the button stand, added some darts at the neck and generally cut it down to size.
As the basic shape was very simple, I used fabric from another shirt to add a contrast trim to the neck and hemline.
Linen is not the easiest fabric to work with, it creases very easily, pins fall out, and it also likes to fray.
My design process involved lots of trying on and ironing, plus a few blind alleys.

Great job, I can't imagine all the fraying!
Yes, turned out great & worth the effort.
Love the top and also love the skirt. Is the skirt also a Re-fashion?
Thank you. Yes the skirt is a refashion from 2 years ago. I do wonder if I am cheating on my no new buys rule by making new things.
whatthesew My own challenge was not to but new or thrifted for the year.
But I also set the goal to Re-fashion 10 items a month from the stash. 10 items is too much and I am behind. I think you are good to refashion. We both love to sew and would be unhappy if we did not do that.
I lIke the new shape you made. And the trim is a great contrast.
Chickie
you did great refashion !
I love this! What a difference!
