Lovely Lilac Layers

Hello Refashion Co-op. Spring is beautiful. The flowers are beautiful. The blossoms are beautiful. (Pollen, allergies and congestion are not beautiful, but that is another story.) I found this lovely lilac dress at a swap and thought the floral fabric was perfect for spring.

The dress fit well but it was too long. The dress had a 2 layer skirt. The outer layer was very long. It was dragging on the ground. The under skirt was shorter, it came down to my knees. I cut the outer skirt much shorter and hemmed the outer skirt about 1 inch longer than the under skirt.

I had a big rectangle left over from the long outer skirt. What would that be good for?

It made a perfect little shawl and it also was a nice scarf. I wrapped it around my neck and tucked into the front of the dress and it filled in the plunging neckline.

A Snake Skin Jacket?

Hello Refashion Co-op. It is spring but still chilly in the mornings in my part of the world. I thought a light jacket would be a good idea.

I liked the snake skin design of this denim fabric and the roomy fit but the sleeves were way too long.

I took the cuffs off the sleeves and made them 3/4 length. I reattached the cuffs. The sleeves had enough room in them to make small box pleats in the sleeves at the cuffs.

I kept the roomy fit in the body of the jacket. It was comfortable and easy to layer over other pieces. Now, the sleeves are out of my way too.

Stripes on Stripes

Hello Refashion Co-op. I am enjoying spring and spring sewing. It is warmer and I can wear skirts without freezing to death.

I found both of these tops at a swap and thought they needed to stay together. They were the same colors and they were both striped. I liked how the sweater fit so I just had to work on the t-shirt. It was roomy enough to make something else out of.

I cut the t-shirt into a skirt shape. I used a skirt I liked as my guide.

I sewed the side seams and then added an elastic waistband. I learned this method here, from Saga, and I use it a lot.

I was happy with all my stripes.

Dress to Top

Hello Refashion Co-op. Spring is here. It is time for fun light weight clothes. This blue dress
was handed-down to me and I loved the colors. It was so pretty. It was a little boxy and shapeless. I decided rather that a boxy dress I would rather have a loose top.

I cut the middle of the dress out. I wanted was that pretty design at the bottom of the dress. I did some measuring to make my top shorter than a regular t-shirt but long enough to cover my tummy.

I used my sewing machine to re-attach the bottom piece.

I was happy with my top and had extra time to play with the photo editing and collage apps on my phone.(As you can see.) For more pictures and details go to I Can Work With That.

Dressy Easter

Hello Refashion Co-op. We are in strange times. I don't know if you are being told to stay home or if you are getting back to normal. This weekend is Easter and normally I would be attending church, in person, with my family. I decided to make a casual Easter t-shirt and a dressy outfit so I would be ready for anything.

Someone made this dress themselves, they used great materials and it was very well done. Time has worn it down and it needs a little help to shine again. It was about a foot too long on me and the lace had seen better days.

I did some aggressive cutting, puffy sleeves and old lace had to go.

I made new shoulders, new arm holes and did a lot of pinning and hemming. I was really happy I could make this dress wearable for today.

The Sweater Saga Part: 1

Neighbor Sandy gifted me these 3 identical sweaters in 3 different colors!

I have always wanted to try and make a 2-tone sweater from 2 different sweaters and now here is my chance! I figured this would be a simple refashion since the black and red sweaters were identical.

I cut down the back of the red sweater.

Then I cut down the front of the sweater. Then repeated the same with the black sweater.

I flipped the pieces inside out and took 1 black and 1 red side. Then I pinned them together down the back and the front, with the help of my dress form.

I used a medium ball-point needle and streteched my stitch to 4.0mm- this was to help the sweater knit from becoming a ruffle!

Once both pieces were stitched together I took in the sides as well as the sleeves.

I am BEYOND happy with how this turned out!

Happy Refashioning, Crafting and Upscaling!!!
