Another "Mom Jumper" Transformation!

We've talked about "mom jumpers" before.  They're those ubiquitous jumpers that are so easy to wear when your own style is on hold while you are in your childbearing years.  Thrift shops are FULL of them... racks of them.  I had the remains of one lying around my sewing room.

and I married it to a thrift store denim blouse I had in my stash... this is the result:

Ragbag Dress to New Blouse

Here's another project I shared today on my blog, Seams Sustainable.  I found an old button up dress at our local Salvation Army.

I liked the drapey rayon fabric, the cute floral print, and the faux pearl buttons. 

So I turned it into a blouse I could wear with jeans, or with a skirt for a dressier presentation.

Simple Men's Shirt Upcycle

Men's shirts are plentiful in thrift stores, and often they are in great condition!  I picked one up at our local Salvation Army Thrift Store for $2.99.  It was even a fairly high quality "designer" brand!  I put it on my dress dummy, Betsy, backwards, and proceeded to cut off the collar and cuffs.

With some quilting cotton I had on hand in my stash, I made bias binding and a sash for more feminine shaping.

A Frankentop

Hi All!  Stopping by from Seams Sustainable to share my latest Frankentop.  It's the marriage of two pieces.  A leftover jumper top (I harvested the skirt fabric to make another top) and an old shrunken T.  Here's the result.  I'm thinking it'll be quite wearable once it warms up here!

Upcycled Mom Jumper

When you go to the thrift store, do you see racks and racks of old shapeless jumpers?  I call these "mom jumpers".  I found this one at the thrift store yesterday with a cute fish print and I made this cute crop top out of it.  To see all the details, stop by Seams Sustainable!

Fly Away Jacket Upcycle

Hi! Here's one of my oldie but goodies! I found this jacket in a thrift shop for about three dollars. I needed a jacket, so I didn't alter it in a major way. But it was so PLAIN! Hello fellow refashionistas! My name is Dee and my blog,
Seams Sustainable is an off-shoot of my home-based business, which is clothing design and manufacture, using as many recycled and upcycled materials and embellishments as possible. I also do custom sewing (costumes for dance and historical re-enactment, formal wear, wedding attire, etc.) and I give sewing lessons, including lessons in clothing repair - an essential sustainability skill.

Here's an example of one of my upcycles. I found this denim vest in a charity thrift store for a few dollars. Rather than dramatically alter the vest, I used the natural seam lines as a track for ribbon embellishment. Then I added some burlap flowers with button centers and painted stems.
