Toddler Play Pants from Neon Dress

Ola fellow refashioners! :)

Sharing with you another dress refashion (this one onto a toddler play pants) that was done back in May.

Hat from pants

I am participating in the Me-Made-May 2013, and last Friday's theme was hat. I took the opportunity to finally make myself one!

Enter this old (probably 6-7 years old) linen blend pair of pants/trousers. I've chopped a portion off it initially when up-sizing (in my book that is another version of refashioning) its matching jacket.

Perfect fabric for a spring/summer hat in my opinion.

Using the pattern Vogue V8844 I have in stash, and choosing View A I got to work.

(with contrast fabric that came off one of my previous skirt project. It was too long, so I chopped off a lot off the hem, and these portion plus scraps were used towards the contrast of the hat).

There were some piecing that might be required when using scraps/leftovers/not big enough piece of fabric. But as long as you make sure to ascertain they are of the same grain, it will be okay. I was not that particular re grains for projects such as hats, but when upsizing/refashioning garments, it is highly advisable to make sure the grains are on point. :)

Being a slow worker that I am, it took me a night and morning to complete it. Somewhere around that. :)

Sweater dress to Peplum Tunic

I made this sweater dress (from pattern Butterick 5523) in early 2012 and wore it often despite it not looking quite flattering on my body... Decided that I love the upper portion too much to have it buried under my huge down jacket, so chop chop...

And after:

Spring is definitely here, but it is still chilly at times, so a wool knit clothing is gonna keep me nice and comfy :) Hope that you are all doing great and having a great time with your projects :)

Spring Silk Chiffon Blouse

Spring is here at last, yippee!

Here is my 1st spring top, refashioned from a long silk chiffon dress from Zara Basic.

Thrifted Curtain to A Crossbody Tote Bag

I really love this thrifted curtain from Goodwill. But I had my first sewing expo to go to and I had no suitable bag to take with me. So off the stash shelf and onto the cutting table it went.

Linen Jacket: Upsized & Relined

I upsized a too-small linen jacket from my 20s by adding panel inserts from its matching pants, and relined it with fabric from a set of silky rayon blouse and skirt.

Blazer to Bag: A celebration!

Hello friends! This time I get to make a timely refashion before our poor editors have to send me reminders! Moving states has been tough, but now that we are more settled in our rental apartment I am determined, DETERMINED, not to be an errant student anymore...

The last 12 boxes from Iowa have finally arrived this week, and with them came this blazer:

And in about 2 days (slow, I know, but if you know me, this is considered quite fast, hehe) I turn it into this:

Details:

Blazer is my 5 yr-old Zara made of a thick knit (poly and spandex)

Also used: Thrifted faux leather material, thrifted fuchsia/hot pink thick satin for lining, repurposed metal snap

By the way, my blog turn 1 this month, and for that I am planning to give away some of the patterns that I have been hoarding for a while. I couldn't purge them before the move, I am too attached to them, but I figure it is best to share them with my fellow sewing enthusiasts. Maxi dress refashion

It's a pretty quick and easy refashion that does not require me to sew.

I made this maxi dress a few months ago, but it has a couple of issues that made it less wearable in my book. So finally this morning I took my scissors to it and I got myself a new HiLo aka mullet skirt for the fall.

Last month's refashion

Still here... :)

Here is a pic of my last refashion. It's made from a floor length buttoned up silk floral dress. Easy breezy to wear, but not quite dress-uppy style. Maybe dressing up is not my style? I don't know. Must find my lost mojo... :)

T-shirt refashion to tide me over

Hello friends!!!!

I am working on a dress refashion project right now, a simple one, and that will still take me a couple of days probably.... So I'm sharing with you my T-shirt necklace (refashioned from a T-shirt). I know you've seen this a million times around here and on other blogs, but it's my very first one :) hehe....

I wanted to embellish the knotted part, but nothing looks good there... But I will try again once my 10 boxes of sewing stuff get mailed to us :)

Refashioning my first refashion

Good morning friends!

This week I took my very first refashion project ever and re-do it.

It was originally a thrifted plain 2XLT men's long sleeves cotton t-shirt. No before pic unfortunately as this was back in 2010 and pre-blog...

This was what I came out with back then:

And take 2 in 2012:

I used an online tutorial to create the swirls, and finally blog about what I did for mine (link to the tutorial is included). :)

It was a treasured project, but now I love it even more!

My Favorite Refashioned T-Shirt

This is an old refashion project that I absolutely love and always reach out to wear. The color is as vivid as ever (pretty shade of emerald green) after so many wash, makes me happy to to wear it!

Denim dress refashion

Hello fellow refashioners!:)

I have this thrifted dropped waist denim long dress in my closet and this morning was in need of a quick project.

For the first time in my life, got a sewing project done in the same day!

It's similar in concept (and steps i'm sure) to the pillow case dress, but i incorporated (i like that word a lot) the pleated part of the skirt into mine. I reuse the black tie from my old maternity dress here, but might consider making a vibrant colored/print version to spice things up.

This is how I wore it today. Not in picture frame is my red cotton leggings. Toddler milk bottle is optional.

Daddy's Un-donate-able clothes to Toddler's Play Pants

Just as the title, I made 3 pull up pants for my growing toddler from the hubby's torn/stained clothing items.

1) Daddy's thrifted twill cotton pants to toddler's pants (daddy's pants was already cut up and made into a toddler's fisherman hat, so i'm just using the leftovers)

2) Daddy's torn up checkered/plaid dark red and navy shirt (also originally thrifted) into a 3/4 lenth toddler play pants

3) Daddy's very old sweats with mommy's cooking stains at some spots into another pull up pants

Gingham Blouse

Hello! Somehow a gingham blouse always seem so appropriate for spring/summer in my book, so I cut up a thrifted men's shirt I have at home and made one for myself :) This blouse is also my very first top completed for the Starting at the top Challenge 2012, ending April 15th.

Fisherman Hat

Spring is here! Spring is here! Time to have fun in the sun yeah? For the times when the sun gets too hot for the little one, I made him a fisherman hat:

Materials: Old toddler flannel shirt, hubby's old cotton twill pants, thrifted pellon interfacing and threads from stash. I also used 2 thrifted novelty buttons for decoration :)

Refashion as old as my son: Sorbetto tunic

I finally get to finish my very first attempt at garment sewing, yay! I cut the fabric for another pattern longggg time ago, thinking that I will learn to sew my own clothes during my maternity leave like 18 months++ ago but got cold feet and put it away. When I finally picked up courage to learn to sew clothes again last August I never looked back and never stop sewing, but only now able to (find the time and idea) to close this chapter...

I used the Sorbetto pattern, and made it roomier at the bottom and added the white fabric (and used the same white fabric to bind the neck and armhole) to add length making it more of a tunic.

Can't find even one pic of me in the original dress (coz it sure wasn't flattering to me) so the following amateur drawing is approximately how it looked like:

Stash-busting!

First item in my huge stash to be refashioned this year is this beautiful silk skirt that I bought at a thrift store a year ago:


It was a size 4, and I am most definitely not a size 4 :) But i had to have it, and it had been lying in my sewing closet along with all the other pieces of clothes that did not get donated because I just had to keep (but yet cannot wear for one reason or another)

Old Sweater Redos

Hello there! Wishing all of you a very happy and productive 'new' year :) I have quite a bunch of things in my closet that survived several rounds of donation pile - can't wear/use as-is - so I am hoping this dragon year I will proceed with refashioning them into something else more fabulous.
