A couple of aprons from curtain/lining and lace!

Hello all!

I wanted to make an apron to put money in when I had a stall at a recent event.

But I wasn't quite sure what to make it from.

So I rummaged in my stockpile and came up with some lace from a top which got me thinking...

 

I  had some gorgeous curtain fabric somewhere...

And it was lined...

So I designed an apron, added the lace, lined it with the curtain lining and added a money pocket on the front. 

Can you see it? 

No? 

Good! 

That was the plan!

Dress to apron refashion

I made an apron last night and today out of a dress I bought in a charity shop. Turned out really nice if I do say so myself.

Repurposed Gap Maternity Dress Project No. 2

I am leaving to train up north for a couple of days and I expect that I will be too busy to blog so I wanted to get this out before I take off. This is the second project I was able to make from the maternity dress I picked up at the thrift shop, it was really fun. I added a window with extra fabric that I had and applique'ed it with the dress fabric. I also created a nice big pocket because I like big pockets on my aprons.

I got the idea to applique' the dress' paisley print pattern onto the fabric and was really excited about my creative genius....until I remembered that in all of the years that I have sewn...I have never applique'd! So with a little tuteledge from my mentor, I call her mom, and a couple of practice runs, I dove in and I think I swam pretty okay.

My youngest daughter has returned to the nest for a while, I hope to have her sewing when I return from my trip. She is very creative and has my sense of style, you know, boho-riche fashion with a boho-hobo budget, I really crack myself up sometimes. I have a couple of projects that I think she'll have a blast working on. I will keep you all updated.

a no-waste christmas gift!

This project was inspired by a bag full of scraps from past refashioning projects. It seemed like i'd collected SO MUCH...and I didn't want it to go to waste.

My sister is big into anything DIY/green/recycling, so I knew she would appreciate this gift.

I decided to make a VERY unique apron. We did a post about making aprons which you can read on our blog here.

I started by taking rectangular pieces of fabric and created pleated "stripes" on a base of leftovers from hemmed curtains:

I then used an old tank top to create the top portion, and used ties and satin ribbon to create the sash and ties around the neck.
Then for an extra special touch, I cut out letters from more of that scrap fabric and hand stitched them to the apron:

"Cocinar Todo Con Amor" means "Cook Everything With Love". My sister and I share a passion for food and cooking, and she is currently working for an organization called Manna Project International in Ecuador. She does community development outside of Quito, and is changing the lives of those around her everyday. I am so proud of her and am so happy to be able to make her such a special and meaningful present. You can see her blog here.

To Catch A Thrift

Ralph Lauren Bedsheet Apron

 I hang out in the linen section of the thrift store. It is so satisfying to re-purpose a discarded 

sheet/curtain/blanket and give it new life.

I also had a lot of small pieces of bias left over from other projects. I spliced them together and used them up...I think it gives it a little japanese craft book look.

This apron goes to my sister. Check one name off the Christmas list. yay!!

Tablecloth to aprons

I took this circular tablecloth

and made two aprons out of it

Thrifted sheet apron

This vintage apron is made from a thrifted sheet and a portion of embroidered tablecloth. The crocheted trim came off the bottom of a curtain that had seen better days.

The only problem is that it's white, and I love it too much to make it dirty by using it.

The Chef Wore Plaid

A continuation on the chef theme... An apron is a necessity when you have donned your chef hat! But not just any old apron will do for this little chef. Boo's mimi had given us some old shirts she never wore anymore, and he loves anything that was hers!

Amongst the pile was a red, plaid button up that she wore a fair bit. He remembers her wearing it, so it has sentimental value to him. I found it was more than enough to make an apron for him. The sleeves had those tabs that hold your sleeves in place when rolled up. I used those for the necktie, button holes were already sewn in! The pocket from the front of the shirt was used as well. I backed it with a piece of muslin from my stash and used bias tape around the edges and for the waist tie.

Another successful refashion in Boo's eyes! Now that he's back at school, I may get the oven mitts sewn up!

Pillowcase to apron

I know this isn't a fashion garment but I see there are other aprons on here so I thought I would add this.


I made this apron out of a pillowcase which already had the frill around the edge.

Micah's apron.

This apron, a great accessory for any little lady, was made for Micah from scrap fabrics, leftover muslin, an old bandanna, and a free apron from Home Depot. I think its three frumpy layers suit her eclectic style.

Bloomin' Fun

 I came across some orphan vintage quilt blocks recently. I thought they looked like flowers so I appliqued them onto an apron inspired skirt that I'd just finished.

It's a fun way to enjoy these blocks without having to commit to making an entire quilt.

Restyle # 16 - My Me Made June fail safe!

This is really just a bit of fun and not very technical, but I thought I'd share it anyway, if only for the fabulous 1950's print! This was a curtain remnant from a college friend. There really wasn't enough to make anything meaningful out of, and since I am taking part in Me Made June, I thought an apron would be a handy fall back since I wear one every day. Everything is totally from remnants and thrifted notions....Px

Hi.

I wanted to share my little re-fashion that I put together for my sisters trip to Nashville.

The skirt is my own design based on a vintage apron. It is fashioned from a vintage tablecloth.

The cardi belongs to her and just needed a little freshening up. I cut some silk on the bias and added a few roses (sewn on by hand). I've been enjoying this site so much. I'm so inspired by all your re-fashions.

I am an optimist!

I do believe that the weather will get better and when it does, I'll be ready to BBQ!

So here are a €0.50 pair of jeans with a wonky zipper and some scraps of Alexander Henry Wranglers fabric left from my brother's His & His pyjama pants which got a new life as a funky apron.

I've got a bit of a headless guy on top there, but you know, scraps are scraps. And speaking of scraps, I made some of Laura's Pincushion Rings. 

Aren't these the cutest? Perfect size for the girlfriends' mending kit. They are such a great gift idea.
