The Long Green Dress to Short Ruffle Dress

I found this really soft, green velvety dress and loved the material.

I am not really into long dresses so I decided to cut the length and then use the remaining material to make it into a ruffled skirt.

Island Infinity Scarf from Gauze Skirt

I was sitting in the shade in Belize.
A lady asked, "Which shop has those
Infinity Scarves?"
I smiled, "Refashioned from a skirt."

After Wrap

 

Trip: Belize

Packing Goal: Refashion from the stash.

Before: Fabric from a gauze skirt in the stash.

After: Island Infinity Gauze Scarf    Wear doubled for regular infinity. Or as a shawl, cover up.

Steps: This is a thin gauze and a very long fabric piece.Process and product varies depending on the type / amount of fabric in each skirt.  This is a very forgiving process. 

• Cut off and discard the waist-band. Leave all side seams for infinity.
• Serge all edges.  
• Turn under and stitch 1/4" all edges. Turn under again and stitch 1/2" all edges.

I'm starting off my new year right with some sparkle.

I cut the straps on the top to make a halter top shirt.  Then I used a scrap from the bottom to make some tuxedo pants from an old pair of slacks.

Give the Cat a Name

Oscar de la Renta's striped clown top

May Oscar de la Renta rest in peace. I found this top with his label on it that I was drawn to the colors. But it again just screamed "clown"- with the magenta and black stripes and then the collar! Oh the collar!

I removed the sleeves and the collar. I adjust the neckline and used parts of the sleeve to make a tie. I didn't take it in at all but I did fix the arm holes. The end product is something worthy of wearing to the office! Yay!!!

See-through Skirt Problem Solved

After: No see through

Honduras: Clouds burned off. 
The sun came out.

Trip: Honduras

Packing Goal: Refashion from the stash.

Before: Nice gauge skirt from the stash. I wanted to wear it on ship for dinners. Even lined, it was see through. I have a stash of old slips.

After: Skirt is well lined and there is no chance of packing the wrong slip.

Steps: Elastic waist-band cut away from old slip.
Old slip was permanently stitched in place in the skirt waist band seam.
