Happy Sunday! Hope you all are enjoying the weekend:) I've got a quick refashion that takes a thrift store button up wrap top to a jacket. AGAIN, I don't have a proper before, but I hope this gives you an idea of what it looked like.
|
It wrapped across, tight around the neck, and was about 4 inches too wide.
This shot is after I'd taken in each side. |
So I took in each side by a out 2 inches, ran that through my machine, and then used a length of the existing side seam to create the button loop that I attached on the front of my now jacket. All I did to make it a jacket was to roll each side of the front of the top inwards until I reached the point where it fit around my waist and the two sides met in the middle. Nothing precise here, I rolled and then sewed the button and button loop through all layers of the rolled fabric to keep it in place. This creates a bit of a point at the bottom of each side of the front of the jacket.

This is a view of the finished jacket, including the button, button loop,
and the rolled front of the jacket (rolled inward). |
Here is a closer up of the button and button loop closure I created, again simply by cutting out a bit of the side seam that had been taken in. All extra fabric was left on the jacket, no need to cut any of it out as it didn't add any visible bulk.

Button and button closure. |
The buttons that ran up the side of the top to close it I left in place and chose a large gold button for the front closure to match. I like the bit of detail that the row of gold buttons adds, so I simply left them in place on the one side.

Gold buttons! |
Well, I hope you like! I am in my usual Sunday morning form of bedhead and pi's, hence the headless pics ;) What do you think? It's a bit nautical, perhaps a bit preppy, but I think its super hot with a pair of dark skinnies, heels, and a simple white tee underneath!
Peace
Andrea

I like the "new" jacket - looks cute on you. The colours are great for spring.
