Going Dotty

At long last, I can finally post the end results of the refashion my son's girlfriend has been working on for almost a month (in between school and work) - Ta Da!

Here's what she started with - a seemingly simple maternity skirt, purchased for all of $2.50 at our local Assistance League (I'm teaching her about selecting garments that can give her maximum yardage):

So eager to start, we almost forgot to take a Before photo - this was after
we cut the bottom skirt layers off the waist and hip area.

After drafting a custom bodice pattern, making and fitting a muslin bodice, cutting the bodice and bodice lining from the remainder of the top of the skirt (there was VERY little left over - almost a total no-waste refashion!) and the straps from the reinforced upper waist area, gathering and attaching the over and under skirt, and setting in a zipper, here is what she ended up with:

Believe it or not, this is one of her first sewing projects EVER. Amazing, don't you think?
You can see more details of the transformation over here on my blog.
