"Embroidered Flowers and Lace" Top Refashion

Today's refashion started off like this:

I wasn't a fan of the elastic around the sleeves and hem.

I cut it off before doing anything.

Then I sewed the raw edges down to begin with the lace.

I cut my lace to add to the bottom hem and the sleeves!

Here's how it turned out!

SHIRT FIXES: from too snug to just perfect

I had a few nice shirts just hanging around in my closet, but I never wore them because they were a little too snug for my taste. I've never had too much success in the past, making a snug shirt a bit bigger, but I guess practice makes perfect, right?

With a ton of skirts in my closet, I need to focus on adding more shirts -- the cute, the casual, the funny, etc. With the three too-snug shirts, I experimented with three methods to make them a tad bigger.

Plain wedges to ankle strap wedges

The problem with these shoes was that they were loose and coming off.
I could not walk comfortably so I thought to make ankle straps.

I made a pattern and traced it on the relics of an old pair of boots:

...cut it and glued the sides...

...glued it inside each shoe...

...the back...

...used ankle straps I had from some old flats..

...and the result:

Now it's absolutely comfortable and I like their style more.

Upcycled Tote Bag from Shirt Collars

While I was working on the Shirt Project I discovered endless ways to upcycle different aspects of Shirts. One that I was really taken with was the Tote Bag made out of shirt collars.

I just loved this bag and end up making a few as I had loads of collars left over from the shirt dresses being constructed for the project exhibition.

Men's Polo to Skirt Refash

I picked up this men's polo for 50 cents and I love this pattern! I figured the soft cotton would make a cozy skirt!
Look! It's just my size (eye roll)

I cut the shirt just under the front buttons.

I folded the top down to make a casing for some 3/4 inch elastic.

I sewed my casing and left a 2 inch gap to thread through the elastic.

My elastic is in and I sewed the gap closed.

I got this done the night before the husband and I went to the Lindsey Stirling concert. (Lindsey Stirling is an amazing performance violinist. Her music style ranges from classical to pop, hip-hop to electronic dance music. She's so talented....seriously, Youtube her).

Me and the husband :)

It was such an amazing concert! Lindsey you rocked it!

Muu-mooove Over

Muumuus are one of my favorite things to refashion. I'll be the first to admit that I have what some may call "too many" in my pile of upcoming refashions. I can't really help myself. The polyester fabric may not breathe, but it has some of the best prints and colors.

before copyDon't I look excited?

I started by removing the sleeves, because black polyester is dangerous enough in the summer, and I didn't need to tempt heat stroke with long sleeves. Next I undid the previous owner's altered hemline. Surprising, I know, but I needed more length this time, not less.

1Un-shorten the hem.

I didn't like the original front, so I decided to switch the back to the front and the front to the back. This required a little finagling, but it worked in the end.

Switcheroo!

Then I finished the arms and collar.

3Finish the arms.

And I was done! All things considered, this was a pretty simple refashion. (You can see more of the how-to on my blog.) It's definitely not a good dress for daytime outdoor activities (See "heat stroke" above.) but it will be great for evenings and indoors. I love it!

after copyAnd done!

There will no doubt be more muumuus this summer, so if granny dresses are your thing, stay tuned!

Charlie Brown

Good Grief.

I cut the arms off and used one of the sleeves to fill in the front.

I slid a cord through the casing of the original sleeve to make a halter top.
