Refashioned Newborn Pants

After making some little baby t-shirts last week, I decided to try my hand at making pants this week!

I used Rae's Basic Newborn Pant pattern, which is free & totally easy to use. These were so easy to put together.

Haha, I'm a bit lazy - I didn't put any waist elastic in before I took pictures of my pants. I was just so excited! The Batman print ones are made from leftover fabric from an op-shopped quilt cover that I made myself a dress out of. The dinosaur ones are made from an op-shopped pillow case. 

I made these to match my refashioned Batman t-shirt! They're made from stretch knit that I got from a garage sale, and the little bat applique came from the men's t-shirt that I refashioned for the baby tee. 

I made these to match the Skellington tee, from the leftovers of the men's t-shirt I refashioned. I love this little tuxedo set! If you'd like to read my waffling on about these pants a bit more, then check out my blog. Only 15 weeks until baby gets here now!

Teeny Weeny Baby Tees!

I've been a bit slow off the mark to start doing any baby sewing - I'm 23 weeks pregnant now, and February suddenly doesn't seem so far away! I decided to start this week using this free baby t-shirt pattern, some mens t-shirts, and some of my precious garage sale fabric (a lady gave me three big suitcases full for $50!).

The Jack Skellington tee & the Batman tee were cut out from op-shopped men's t-shirts, with knit fabric added as ribbing to finish the hems. For the Tie tee, I cut the tie pieces out from an actual men's tie so that they would fit on the tiny t-shirt. I finished the hems with navy knit fabric for ribbing. Dresses to Maternity Skirts

Hey guys, it's been a while!

I've found myself in need of some Summer maternity clothes lately, so I decided to refashion a couple of ill-fitting dresses. 

I turned this dress:

Into this skirt:

This was probably the easier refashion I've ever done. Since both dresses had an elastic waist I cut the dresses apart just above the seam where the bodice piece joined the skirt piece, and done!

Maternity Pants & Belly Bands

Hi everyone, it's been a while! I realised that I haven't done any sewing at all since I was 6 weeks pregnant, and now I'm 15 weeks. Eeek! So I pulled out some supplies, and made a few simple maternity things today. 

This is the first pair of pants that I made. They look a bit funny because I had to cut a lot of the top of the pants off (the seams in the butt were starting to split!), but you don't even notice if I wear a tunic top over them. 

These are my favourite ones! I made a jumpsuit that wasn't fitting properly before I was pregnant into a pair of awesome maternity pants. 

I also tried making a few large scrap pieces of fabric into belly bands using this tutorial. I don't know how well they work yet, because I haven't had a chance to see if they hold my pre-preggo pants up properly but they were fun to make anyway.  Feel free to visit my blog if you'd like to see some more pics & details of what I did! 

Tracing Your Favourite Clothes

I made myself a cute tunic top this week by tracing one of my favourite oversize t-shirts onto this gorgeous yellow thrifted fabric. I added some little belt loops, and recycled a piece of yellow brocade cord into a belt. I'm so happy with how it turned out!

T-Shirt to Girls Pinafore Dress

A few weeks ago I had my first try at refashioning something for kids (in honour of the fabulous Max California, who was celebrating the birth of her new daughter)! I made a small womens t-shirt into a girls pinafore style dress. Here's the shirt I started with:

Winter Accessories From An Old Sweater

Hello there everyone! I'm just popping by with a rather simple upcycling project today - a while back I made some new Winter accessories out of an old cropped sweater that I wasn't too keen on anymore. Here's the sweater in question:

Make a Handbag from a Fancy Shopping Bag

I've really been wanting to make a handbag from one of these fancy Kitten D'Amour shopping bags ever since I first saw them. I decided to use the last of one of my precious owl fabrics to make an inner for my bag.

I drew up this little diagram to help me figure out what my inside bag pieces should look like.

Here's how it turned out in the end! I think it makes a pretty cute handbag & gives me a memento from one of my favourite stores that I can't often afford to shop at. If you're interested in me trying to explain how I made this I wrote a bit of a tutorial here.

Dowdy Skirt to Cute Dress Recon

Hey guys,

I've been pretty sick this week, so I haven't been able to do as much sewing as I would have liked, but I still managed to do a little recon on this skirt that I got on a recent op-shopping trip.

See? This skirt needed a refashion! I loved the print, but as soon as I tried it on I knew I was turning it into a dress.

All done! And all it took was a piece of elastic and ten minutes of sewing. If you're interested in more details & a bit of a tutorial I wrote one up on my blog.

Colour Block Dress from Two Ugly Polo Shirts

Hi guys,

This is my first time posting on Refashion Co-Op, and I'm pretty excited! I wanted to share one of my favourite refashion projects. A few weeks back I got fancy new work shirts with my name embroidered on them, so I wanted to think up something to do with the old ones so they weren't wasted. I hated the style of the shirts, but loved the colours! I ended up chopping the two shirts up & using pieces of each to make a colour blocked dress.
