All my life I've always hemmed skirts that were way too long for me. I'm a short girl, but I fall in love with skirts meant for average-height or tall people. Sometimes a miracle happens and an ankle-length skirt actually looks good on my short stubby legs, but most likely, I'm not meant to wear long skirts. And that's completely OK with me because during the past few years I've developed the habit of buying a too-long skirt for me with the intention of hemming it.

LONG SKIRT A SMIDGE TOO TIGHT -- CAT NOT INCLUDED |
However, I found a ankle-length skirt in my closet which was a smidge too tight for me. I immediately tossed the skirt in the donate pile, thinking a hem job wouldn't save the skirt. But as I started to toss the "donate" clothes into a bag, I took a closer look at the skirt. One, I love the color and pattern. Two, I only wore it a few times. Three, I knew I could do
something to save the skirt. I just didn't know what.

GOODBYE, TOP OF THE SKIRT. |
Finally, the easy answer hit me: just remove the waistband area and create a casing for a drawstring. Brilliant! What I loved even more was I didn't have to hem anything! Yay! By the way, this was the first skirt where I tampered with the waistband and not the hem. The refashion was super easy for me. I made a straight cut right below the end of the zipper and then created a casing for elastic and some drawstrings. Now, I have a super cute skirt for the fall and winter months!
