Summer recap no 2 - tunic into beach coverup

My sister gave me this tunic, but it was already quite shabby, which made it perfect for my beach dress. What it lacked in length I added from the sleeves by slicing them lengthwise.

The tunic had to be narrowed down a bit and instead of stitching at the sides I have left the ends untrimmed and tied. I used two scraps and tied the shoulder straps.

Hope you've enjoyed this curvy refash!

Love,
Dee

Tweed Skirt Re-Do

Hello Refashion Co-op. Today's project was quick and easy. You could even call it cheating. Go ahead, call me a cheater. Like most moms out there, I have limited time.

This skirt was in great shape, but too big. It isn't flattering if it doesn't fit well.

I sewed down the sides and took it in. The new side seams are lopsided, but it worked out really well.

Here is a classic straight skirt that fits and will be worn endlessly.

For more details about this lopsided fix, go here.

Varsity Sweater

I've had this old cardigan in my closet for a couple years now. It's super comfy, but not the most stylish of garments.

DIY Varsity Sweater

I used leather scraps from a previous project and hand-sewed on a letter "C" and a couple elbow patches. Now I'm ready for autumn!

A Quick Pop with Bias Tape

I picked up this beauty of a dress for $2! It was actually by accident that I came to purchase this dress. I had my arms full of clothes and I was walking towards the register when I caught this baby out of the corner of my eye!
What luck!
Now you might say this dress is totally adorable just the way it is! That's what I said at first until the other day...
My dad and I had done some thrifting and I scored this awesome sewing box FULL of goodies!

I couldn't wait to start using the stuff that came in this box! I kept seeing that mint dress hanging in my closet and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to use some of the navy blue bias tape that came in this box!

So, I sewed some unfolded bias tape to the bottom hem of my dress and folded over more bias tape over the front and back V-neck.

A very simple thing to do and took me no time at all! Which was a good thing because I was taking my husband on a surprise date day!
Ever since our trip to Potter Park Zoo in Lansing I had learned that there was another zoo in Battle Creek, and we were planning on checking it out some day.
Here we are! Binder Park Zoo!

 Posing with the dodo bird.

We worked up a thirst and an appetite after our long walk around the zoo! We went into downtown Battle Creek to Arcadia Ales! (The husband LOVES breweries)

Unfortunately our visit here was nothing to write home about. But that's alright because we still had such a fun time together!

Happy Refashioning!!!

Pants to Skirt

Just an ordinary pants to skirt refashion.  Unfortunately I didn't take a before pic.  They were wide-legged, just above the ankle pants and were not my style.  The fabric is a wool blend and seemed like it wanted to be a skirt.  I pinched the fabric on the creases that went down the front of the leg and sewed 1/8 inch from the edge to make those trouser-looking ridges.

Simple Refashion Using Lace

Gahhh, I am not a big fan of elastic on the bottom of shirts. Why? I feel so restricted in my movements. If I move my hands up for whatever reason, (waving them in the air 'cause I just don't care?) the shirt goes all the way up, revealing my tummy. I decided to get rid of the elastic and sew on matching lace. :)

I didn't have a long enough strip of lace, so I sewed two together.

Shoe Redo - Costume Shoe Makeovers Cinderella Glass Slipper Sugar Shoes, Ruby Slippers and More

Hello All,

Are you ready for Halloween?  I love to upcycle Halloween costumes this time of year.  This last week I spent painting and decorating shoes.  This is my favorite pair.  You can read about the process and see the other shoes here.

Refashion Mathematics: Part 2

As a continuation from my last post, I give you, more Refashion Mathematics!

Today, 1 shirt + 1 shirt = 1 shirt and 1 cardigan
I started out with these 2 shirts.
A thin, black, bat-wingy number that I only got for the lace back.
A faux-layered ensemble. Because clothing companies seem to think we can't layer our own clothes. :P
I removed the faux tank and ended up with a lovely blue cardigan.

But the fabric of the faux tank was too pretty to just toss. Since I hated everything about the black shirt, except for the lace, I decided to use it as a fabric source for making a back for the faux tank. I used the front of the black shirt to make the new back, and ended up with this.

Now I have so many more options with these two pieces. :)

Loafers

I picked up these shoes because they had a super comfy insole and I'm on my feet a lot at work.  But that velcro is just not gonna cut it.

I trimmed off the velcro and added some colorful scrap fabric to the toe and the heel with Liquid Stitch.

And now I've got me some hipster loafers.

Check them out on my blog!

Rehash of a Refash!

What's kickin', chickens???

I wish I could say something glorious has been taking up my time but honestly, since work has been kicking my BUTT these last few weeks, previous weekends have been devoted to sleeping in embarrassingly late, doing as little as possible, an playing a lot of Minecraft with the husband. My weeks have been so busy that lately, the idea of doing anything as complex as sewing on weekends has been almost unappetizing. But things are starting to settle down again, and I think I'll be back to the bobbins in no time!

Here's a little ditty I whipped up a few weeks ago:

Remember this skirt that I felt meh about? Well it was on my mind, bugging me. I was annoyed that it was in my closet and I knew deep down I would never wear it

So first I tried to make shorts. Fail. Then I tried to make a miniskirt. Fail.

THEN I tried to make a miniskirt with some panels in it to make it fluffier. FAIL

So at this point, I'm an hour and a half in and nothing to show for it. So I took the whole thing and started from zero: I cut off as much fabric as I could and sewed it together, like so

I then found an old mint-striped bedsheet in my stash and used that as the other half. They don't match at all but they contrast in a neat way
I serged and sewed and joined both the ends together (which was another pain in the behind but hey, I'm not here to gripe!)

VOILA!!!!

A neat infinity scarf! Husband thinks it looks really good. We're going home to NorCal this Xmas to visit my family, and this baby already has a spot in my suitcase (since scarves in AZ are a joke)

I really like how this turned out. The only beef I had was trying to get the ends together into a loop. Does anyone have some tips or tidbits on how to do that properly? Or any tutorials they know that are good? I'm thinking if I can get the technique down that infinity scarves may become a thing in the gift rotation :)

Until next time!
