Hello! I know it's early, but all the talk of prom at school got me wondering and I have now decided that I am going to make my own prom dress. A refashiony one. 5th years are not permitted to go to prom so I have a whole year before it's my turn, but knowing me, it's better to prepare well in advance. I like the idea of draping, so I came up with the idea to use a pashmina to play about with and get shapes I like. This dress started life as a rather fetching scarf from the acessorize sale that I wore once to a wedding. After much fiddling I came up with this snazzy little number modeled by the lovely Georgette ( yeah, my dress form has a name). I love how it drapes and I do like the backlessness but I don't know about the halter top. I've just pinned it in place but I though I would share my design progression with you. You never know, this could be the one! :)

Jamma shorties of sorry-ness
I am the least organised person in the world. ever. There are probably a ton of emails waiting for me saying "where are your posts Roisin?!" and I can't even acess them to plead for forgivness as the computer ( the old one with email, this is the new one) has died. I'm sorry. I propose to post every last sunday of each month from now on. The good news is I have a bunch of stuff to show so I'll spread it out over the month. After all that here is my refashiom. My aunt bought me this cute blanket ages ago ( I'm a sucker for throws, blankets, throw cushions ect.) but I've never used it so it is now pyjamas. Happy days :) Everyone loves jammies. There's still a ton of fabric left over so I may make a top to match. I was thinking of experimenting with the colette pattern so who knows? Colette jammies! Stay tuned :P

school days over
Hey there, exams are finally over so that means it's holiday time! YAY! I can refashion and stuff all day long now so hopefully, I will be able to post my stuff a lot more frequently now. In the mean time, here's an easy peasy jewellry refashion I came up with. Basically I took little plastic covered bendy wire bits ( you know the ones that are wrapped around bundles of cables to keep them together) and bended them into the shape of treble clefts, then attatched them to earring fixtures. you could use a little dot of glue to keep them from un bendyfying. I'm sorry there's no completed earring pics, my camera ran out of juice, but I'll post finished pictures on to my blog ASAP.

newspaper rings
Hi there, it's been a while, but I'm 3/8 of the way through my exams, so not long until I have refashiony freedom again :P I got the tutorial for these rings from the channel 4 programme Kirstie's handmade Britain and loved the simplicity of the refashion and how they look cute but still elegant. The website doesn't seem to have a tutorial for the rings so there's a tute to follow on my blog. I used an old music sheet, a mismatched earring and some insulation tape for the band, but you could just as easily use newspaper, vintage wallpaper, drawer liners, a poem, pages from a book ( please make sure that the book is old and broken before you use it, no literature massacring please :) anything can be used. A proper ring post (post?) can be used too instead of insulation tape, I just didn't have any in the house at the time :) Happy refashioning, Roisin :P

Long time no post :)
It has been ages since I last had the chance to refashion something, I've been up to my ears in exams and NABS and all sorts, leaving no time to make stuff ( also, my sewing machine has been confiscated until the end of exams as my mum says it's too distracting) But last week I snuck it out of the cupboard to make this. I couldn't help it , withdrawal symptoms were imminent. I took an old pillow case and halved it , keeping the original hem and foldy bit. I then closed up the top and used fabric paints and stencils to make this cushion for my mum for mother's day.Simple I know, but it was all I could do in the limited time I had to sneak out the machine, sew, then put it back again before mum got home :P I turns out you can get exactly two cushion covers out a pillow case, so there's half left over for next time mum goes to M&S :)

Earphone bracelet
Last month, I came across a new blog- hello hydrangea, by the lovely Lindsey, it's full of cute, creative ideas, one of which was this cool earphone bracelet. I had to give it a go and am very pleased with the finished result which fished tons of comlipments from my friends who all wanted me to make them some!

moominy madness :)
Way back at the start of second year (I think that's like middle school or something in America) we had a cushion design project in Home economics. Of course, being an AVID moomin fan since..... erm... a LONG time ago-ish, I had to make a moomin cushion.
I used an old pillowcase and appliqued on moomin characters that I made from upholstery samples! Sniff is faux leather!! I really enjoyed cushion..ing and last summer, I made this cushion with my Auntie Mo. You can definately see the difference in ability as I made this cushion from scratch (out of leftover curtain fabric and an embroidered flower from another cushion), but I personally favour the moomin one. Last weekend, I found the rest of the curtainy thing I used for the cushion and used it to cover a pin board to use as a jewellery..thing. The weird thing was, when I photographed the close up of Snuffkin (I love him !!) The camera said "blink detected" CRREEEEPPPYYY!!!

Shortasauraus
Hi, long time no see :) It's been ages since I've had time to refashion but with prelims over, I shut myself in my room today and got around to doing a project I've been dreaming up over the past torturous no sew month. We were over at my home from home, Ireland just before Christmas to do some shopping in Belfast and paid a visit to Avoca, one of my FAVOURITE shops. They do these really cute hot water bottles with gorgeous lace trim which gave me the idea to do vintage velvet shorts (trimmed with lace of course). My friend Merrick has asked me to make her a pair of shorts from vintage square scarves so I took the oppertunity to try out the pattern I printed from Burdastyle, the tonia shorts. I used a pair of velvet trousers I got from marie curie at £4.They looked really good and I was very pround of how neat they had turned out when half way through, I tried them on. They were closer to a size 20 than a size 12 (uk sizes) I was very disapointed but I'll have a go at taking them in, if not , anyone looking for a pair of size 16/18 Uk shorts. give me a call :P P.S. does anyone else have trouble with Burdastyle sizes? this is the third time i've used them and the sizes are always way out:( Bhliain nua sásta!! :P

the red queen and other stories :)
Hi there! It's been a while since I have has the time to refashion as my exams begin next week!!! I've had a few saved up for a rainy day though so here is the red queen (Alice in wonderland) outfit my friend and I made for Halloween. She was the red queen and I was the mad hatter, unfortunately I only have costume pics but hopefully I will get some of the finished characters soon. The dress is a thrifted skirt sewn on to a primark vest top. We put an old school shirt over the top and sewed on tassels and string to make it corsety.
I also had time today to make this school shirt, I shortened it and made it longer at the back, then potato printed motifs on with fabric paint. Simple but effective :)

:(
I did my English presentation today!!! For those who don't know, I was doing an English talk on refashioning with a short demonstration in class, and today I finally did it. It was rather awful :( I'm not the best at delivering talks, and I could feel my face getting redder and redder as i got further tangled in the autumn cape I was supposed to be making! The talk on whole was over twice the allotted time and by the end of it I was so hot and bothered I had to wait a minute to catch my breath! FAIL!!! Oh well, my class and my teacher were very supportive and asked lots of questions bless them , even though I know they were only pity questions, they still seemed interested in what I was saying and said they were inspired to try it themselves, so that was the main aim :)
Oh well, in the mean time, here is an old lace tablecloth that I'm going to experiment with, maybe I'll try another satchel or a nice scarf....

HELP!
I don't know how I get myself into these messes, but I have agreed to do a talk in English about re purpose and refashioning! :0 It's due some time this week( i.e whenever my teacher decides to throw me to the hyenas that are my English class) I'm supposed to do a demonstration as well as talk about Eco living and it's all to be done in under 4 minutes! Please could you give me some ideas for a quick, easy refashion that will impress my class and my teacher so I can get an A and prove to them I'm not a loser (just coz I actually read our assignments, I don't get it :P) I thought about Ed Hardy style T-shirt cutting but it would be cool if I could do something that the whole class could be involved in and try too, so they will be inspired to refashion. Any feedback would be GREATLY appreciated :P Thank you !!! :) Róisín xx
Meanwhile, here's a little lavender mouse I made from pot pourri , fabric scraps and shoe laces( for her tail) the bow is from a pair of socks. Now she keeps my tights and socks smelling sweet :)

Froken skicklig handmade living sock dolly :P
I recently discovered the handmade living magazine and have become hooked! In this months issue , there was a tutorial on how to make one of froken skickilig's gorgeous dolls and I saw and opportunity to get started on Christmas presents! I substituted the materials in the pattern for stuff I already had in the house, her skin is flesh coloured pop socks, her eyes are the spare buttons from a shirt, she is stuffed with the contents of an old pillow and the thread is dental floss ( heavier duty than normal thread). Her hair is cut from the scraps of felt left over from last year's Christmas decorations. Not really a refashion( unless you count the pop socks) but is re purposing. I can't wait until next week's issue so I can make her body and start building a little wardrobe for her :P

Seasonal transitions-suit satchel
Hi It's Róisín, this is my first refashion :P yay! It's early Autumn here in Scotland and the sc
hool term has started. The huge gap in my Autumn "wardrobe" was a nice but practical bag for school. This year has seen the return of the satchel, but being a vegetarian, I don't wear leather, so finding a hard wearing but good looking bag is difficult so I thought, why not make one? And what is more hard wearing than a wool suit? So I scooted up to Glasgow and found an xxl blue pinstripe suit in oxfam. Unfortunately I have no before photos but this is (ROUGHLY) what the original suit looked like.
I made up measurements by roughly following a design I created by measuring my largest textbook, and piling all my stuff up to get the depth. very technical stuff :P
This is what the finished bag looks like. I lined and piped it using some funky remnant material and curtain cord. Overall it turned out ok :) It has pleated pockets on the front, pockets on either side and pockets on the inside lining. I made those using the original inside pockets from the suit and some homemade bias binding. The"D rings" are belt buckles. I was at my Gran's whilst making it and she kept saying how good the quality of the suit was and asking my uncle what size he took :P Oh well, it makes quite a nice bag now!

First post
Hi! My name is Róisín and this is my first refashion post! Woo! I have always had a passion for art and making things and have recently become interested in branching out to Eco friendly crafts and fashion, hence the refashioning. I've always loved making things into other things and until recently, didn't even know it had a proper name! I can't wait to start posting my refashions and hope they will inspire you to refashion too :P
