Long to shorts

Cleverly, while sorting and clearing my photos, I deleted my last two refashions so it's been a while...

These are / were some uniform pants that were no longer required. In the course of their uniform life they ended up with a glue blob? Varnish blob?  Something blob that was never coming out right on the knee (where the safety pin is in the photo).

That combined with the hot and humid weather at the time said - shorts!

So they would be long enough I chopped the legs below the blob and folded that into the hem. And they were done, and I wore them like that a few times.

The shorts have pockets already, one with a zip, but they are not particularly deep and I had quite a lot of left over fabric - so more pockets.

Just 'because' I decided to add the cargo pockets at an angle. No problems with the first one, but I flipped them over and sewed the second one at the same angle instead of mirrored. Which looked daft. Sigh. Unpick, resew, flaps and recycled buttons - done again!  And now they have phone pockets for long walks.

Happy sewing!

Tie-Dye Loungewear

Hello Refashion Co-op. I liked the colors of this tie-dye dress but the fit was pretty sad.

I decided to make a 2 piece outfit. I used a pattern and cut out the shorts.

I added a waistband to the shorts.  It was cut off a sweatshirt a long time ago.

I made the top of the dress a little more narrow and I had a matching shirt and shorts.

Jamma shorties of sorry-ness

I am the least organised person in the world. ever. There are probably a ton of emails waiting for me saying "where are your posts Roisin?!" and I can't even acess them to plead for  forgivness as the computer ( the old one with email, this is the new one) has died. I'm sorry. I propose to post every last sunday of each month from now on. The good news is I have a bunch of stuff to show so I'll spread it out over the month. After all that here is my refashiom. My aunt bought me this cute blanket ages ago ( I'm a sucker for throws, blankets, throw cushions ect.) but I've never used it so it is now pyjamas. Happy days :) Everyone loves jammies. There's still a ton of fabric left over so I may make a top to match. I was thinking of experimenting with the colette pattern so who knows? Colette jammies! Stay tuned :P

Top refashion and shorts preview

Yay, I finally did it, after being off for so long!
I worked a bit on a senseless top and possibly turned it in a wearable and cute one:

Please check out my entry to read more and tell me what you think of it, ok?
And I took care of a pair of jeans too, still working on these though:
Have a nice week everyone!!

Cute Shorts from Unwearable Men's Shorts

Oh no, I've gotten that sinking feeling where I've spent so much time enjoying everyone's posts here that I haven't actually posted my own projects lately!

I am thrilled over my latest. I don't have a 'before,' but imagine something like this: men's athletic shorts. They were baggy, they had a thick elastic waistband, and they were OLD.

So I cut off the waist, took in the sides a smidge, and used a tutorial I found for making scalloped hems. It didn't work as great on the knit, but the fabric was a great way to try out the technique before I tackle a more serious project. Also, instead of measuring a curve, I just traced around a soup can: the lazy woman's scallops.

The result?

These shorts have all the comfort of sweatpants but all the style of the scalloped pair that showed up on Modcloth the day I finished! I will try to post more of what I'm up to...waiting for a pair of shoes to be completed for those to be shared!

Refashion to Stay in the Game

I didn't let my broken sewing machine keep me out of the sewing weekly game over at the Sew Weekly! These old things were shortened, hand hemmed and

27 dresses

I have a LOT of clothes for refashioning in my stash.  The amount of things I have for refashioning is starting to exceed the amount of space I have for storing it.  So I had an idea.  A series of posts where I refashion one dress per week!!!  My sis says to call it 27 Dresses after the movie, and I thought that was cute.  Anyway, here is my first dress:

I had some left over, and was able to make this tank (using a crocheted table thing for the back):

So, yeah,  I took pictures of the projects while I was sewing them, so expect to see something like a tutorial soon on my blog.

No More Mom Jeans

I lowered the waist a bit on these jean shorts. Not much of a transformation, but they look and feel a lot better.

From bedsheets to pyjamas and a little refashion

Hi there ladies!
Just wanted to share a project I made time ago. I turned some bedsheets into a summer pyjamas: I made the top from the pillowcase and the shorts from the sheet. I embroidered a little panda on the top to embellish :)

Check out my >>blog post<< to find the link for more pics (scroll to the bottom of the post).
And a little cutting and hemming to turn too short pants in a pair of summer shorts:

I posted more details of the process on my blog

But here's the result:

And yeah... those shorts are AWFUL....

I fixed those too!

Shorts to Pants

I started with these:
old yoga shorts
I extended them into capris (pants...bloomers...pantaloons...?) by adding some sheer black fabric from my stash:
flat-felled seams
and tucks as a decorative element

I thought they would be fun to wear under a long tunic top, skirt, or dress in nice weather.

You can see me wearing 'em at Project Minima on my Clothes Collage page!

Jeans into shorts refashion

Hi everyone :) I have a tiny refashion to share today. It took hardly any work at all and is probably something you've all done a million times but I thought I'd share anyways :)

Yesterday, I made a pair of shorts out of some old jeans that were not being worn. I love wearing shorts (with tights in winter). A girl can never have too many pairs of shorts :)

All I did was cut off the legs where I thought I wanted the shorts to sit on my leg. I didn't hem them. I'm going to wash them a  few times and see if I like the raggy look and if not, I will hem them with some pretty fabric :)

I have tons of refashions and tutorials on my blog, Mammy Made, aswell as recipes and homeschooling ideas. If you'd like to take a look, I'd love to see you over there :)

One pants, two shorts!

Hello creative people!
Sorry it took me more than I expected to come back with my second entry. That's because I wanted to post the tutorial for this refashion in my personal blog first.

From a pair of pants, I made myself a new pair of shorts. And, then a made the most lovely shorts for my little princess too.

The shirt I am wearing here, was also a refashion I made a while ago. I plan to share here sometime soon, I just need to find the photos first. =)
