Indian Dress Refashion

I love, love Indian clothing with all its pretty shisha mirrors and beautiful embroidery. I found by chance this gorgeous dress at Goodwill one Sunday. I HAD TO HAVE IT!

Now there were a few problems. 1-smelled funny and had something on the inside (yuck!) 2- semi-stiff with all the embroidery, the dress sat on its own and never sagged. So would not be comfy. 3- the back of the dress was a horrible itchy fabric that was also kind of sheer.

Most of this could be fixed with a gentle hand wash (which shed a lot of dye!). The first project I wanted to make with this was a simple skirt. I cut the bottom part of the dress off. Removed the "back". Made my own back of the skirt with fabric leftover in my stash. Added an invisible zipper and darts to fit. Then finished the top part of the dress with bias tape. Done!

OMG drool......

Can't wait for warmer weather. Giddy actually!!! For more of what I did click here. Still thinking on what I want to make with the rest of the dress. There are so many possibilities I must focus!

Hope you enjoyed this! Cheers!
