Just a quick post, to show what can be done with a sheets. I had spent the last couple of weeks pattern making a dress for my niece Akira, planning to use some Cabbage Patch Kids (CPK) fabric that I had, only to find out Akira does not like CPK! I only had this weekend to make the dress for her birthday so had to find other fabric that she would like in my fabric stash.
I had bought some brand new sheets recently for $3 at an op-shop/thrift store, they still had the price tag from a store that closed down nearly 30 years ago. Someone must have had a good clean of their linen closet! I decided to use those and some plain mauve fabric for the contrast panels and voila, the vintage floral Akira dress was made.
I like using sheets for fabric as even buying new from a retail store, they can still cost less per metre than similar fabrics at a fabric store especially if they are on sale. You can also find some great designs, the fabric can be a little thin but with lining they fit fine and due to the usual polycotton mix they are quite durable - great for kids clothes.

Super cute dress (and niece).
I've only used sheets for curtains, I'll have to look at them differently.
(Well once I made a witches cape)
