Resort Chic - skirt to top!

I think everyone has a flowery and colourful skirt in their wardrobe, but it's either too 80s or is an awkward length. Mine is both! I haven't worn it in a long time, but I love the fabric. My friend had an resort chic themed wedding to I thought it was good to make use of this skirt!

I turned it into a top.  Here's the before and after! I also featured this in my blog

What do you think? No sewing machine was involved.

Step 1: Cut bottom of skirt to length to fit your body. I cut the excess fabric into 2 inch strips. I then plaited them. This will be part of the straps for your top!
Step 2: Unravel the seams on both sides of the top of the skirt.
Step 3: Make darts in the top and back panels of your skirt.  I then hot glue gunned the darts. Somehow, I couldn't get the sewing machine needle through all that material without breaking the needle. Ouch!
Step 4: Sew the plait on to the top of the front and back panels - make sure you allow for the armholes
Step 5: Tidy up with a blanket stitch around the fraying edges - armhole and bottom.

You're good to go!

Measuring for the darts.

Hot glue gunning the darts.
Use pegs to keep them
in place.

Thanks, ladies!I think the hot glue gun was an act of desperation :-] Had difficulty with the needles, so I think it saved the day!
