Hi all! I am Petra, from Bag of Pretty and this is my first time here.
It si hot and busy in my world, and I love quick and effective project that make me happy, and other people smile.
So here it goes:
White top with huge armholes (no idea why, the size was fine, but it was cheap and really comfy)
Resized from the outside. You know, so the seem stays visible and the top looks as if it was turned inside out!
Now for the 'make you smile' part, I ironed on a very cool applique by Funkytime and ombred by low printer cartrige...and voila, I got to wear it the same day!
Thanks for reading!

DIY Ruched Maternity Shirt
I get to be a Grandma in October and I promised my daughter that I'd make her some ruched maternity shirts.
Super easy to do,
All you need is a big thrift store t shirt or two and some quarter inch elastic.
I used two thrift store shirts. One had a nice neckline but was too short and had a small hole in the bottom. This shirt was used for the bodice.
We didn't like the neckline on the other shirt but it was plenty long. So it became the bottom of the shirt.

Make a Handbag from a Fancy Shopping Bag
I've really been wanting to make a handbag from one of these fancy Kitten D'Amour shopping bags ever since I first saw them. I decided to use the last of one of my precious owl fabrics to make an inner for my bag.
I drew up this little diagram to help me figure out what my inside bag pieces should look like.
Here's how it turned out in the end! I think it makes a pretty cute handbag & gives me a memento from one of my favourite stores that I can't often afford to shop at. If you're interested in me trying to explain how I made this I wrote a bit of a tutorial here.
Tattered Skirt from scraps
Hi! I made my 1st adult sized tattered skirt yesterday & I love it! It was super simple to make by pinning each scrap to the waistband (I used an elastic one I'd saved from a skirt refashion). I put the waistband around my office chair to hold it in place then went around the band attaching the heaviest fabrics 1st then finishing with mesh & lace to fill it out. Then I just machine sewed through all the pieces all the way around the band. And this is how it turned out:
Denim Tote Bag
I made a tote bag from a pair of old jeans a while back (original post here), but I felt it was missing a little something something.
I finally got around to added that little something. I used some flowers from an old ripped dress of my daughters and a few buttons from my stash. I think I will use the dress to line another one of these bags in the future.
This became a gift for my daughter's friend. I added a journal and writing utensils and off it went.

Another "Mom Jumper" Transformation!
We've talked about "mom jumpers" before. They're those ubiquitous jumpers that are so easy to wear when your own style is on hold while you are in your childbearing years. Thrift shops are FULL of them... racks of them. I had the remains of one lying around my sewing room.
and I married it to a thrift store denim blouse I had in my stash... this is the result:

T-shirt refashion to tide me over
Hello friends!!!!
Warm regards,
Far @ Memoryseed
http://farsland.blogspot.com/2012/06/im-still-here.html
I am working on a dress refashion project right now, a simple one, and that will still take me a couple of days probably.... So I'm sharing with you my T-shirt necklace (refashioned from a T-shirt). I know you've seen this a million times around here and on other blogs, but it's my very first one :) hehe....
I wanted to embellish the knotted part, but nothing looks good there... But I will try again once my 10 boxes of sewing stuff get mailed to us :)
Warm regards,
Far @ Memoryseed

Men's XL to Maternity Tshirt
Hey everyone!
I'm Mikelina from Mikelina Makes
This is my first posting on refashion co-op. I've been spending so much time here getting great inspiration that I thought it was time to reciprocate!
My first baby is due in November and we couldn't be more thrilled however I am so disappointed with the selection of maternity clothes. What's wrong with women feeling sexy and awesome while bumpin'? Nothing!
And that, my dear friends, is what sewing machines are for.
This is one of my favourite maternity tops now. I wear it all the time!

Old Shirt + Old Bedding + Packaging = RuffleBack Dress
Hi again! It's Mandy from Mandy Made. I wanted to show off my latest, and favoritest upcycle.
I originally thought this dress would be dubbed "The Mullet Dress."
I originally thought this dress would be dubbed "The Mullet Dress."
Thankfully my husband had a better idea. We officially call this dress the "RuffleBack Dress" (a nod to JT).
Besides, this dress is all party in the front AND the back :)

It started with this shirt that I inherited at the neighborhood yardsale. Once I saw it I immediately thought it would make a great dress for BB.
I played around with some ways to incorporate the ruffles. The idea to cross them in the back came because I figured that would be the best way to use the most of the ruffles.
From the moment I saw this shirt at the yardsale I knew that it needed a large ribbon; either pink and red. I just had this vision in my head of the way the contrasting ribbon would compliment the ruffles.
Then I found it as we were redecorating BB's room. One of the blankets from her bed came packaged with this gorgeous ribbon. It was too beautiful to toss out.
Last, I used some of the ruffles from her old bedskirt. The fabric was already gathered; which meant I wouldn't have to make the ruffles myself. One less thing for me to do :)
I have a complete tutorial on my blog. Thanks for reading :)

Three sock monkeys sitting in a cubby...
So what to do with socks ? Make sock monkeys !!!
More details on my blog: Sew Lil Time.

You might be a Redneck...
Don't get me wrong, I'm a country girl (a proud fact) and will always
be a country girl at heart. I was raised on a chicken farm with at
least 3 old rusty tractors (in various stages of repair, I might add)
parked in the front lawn, a makeshift rope swing on our biggest mango
tree, and about 8 hunting dogs who never saw the inside of a vet's
office. Did I mention my brother's nickname is Bubba?
Needless to say, it was one of the happiest places of my life. As I've gotten older, and supposedly wiser (snort), I've decided that the deep rooted redneck philosophy of being comfortable in your own skin with what you got, ain't so bad after all. Now then...you won't find me deep frying catfish in a makeshift BBQ pit in the middle of a rainstorm (thank you Swamp People!) but I understand why.
I found this little ditty at the St. Anthony School Bazaar for a whopping 2 BUCKS!

Although a men's size large, it was Gap denim..and a steal.
Finished product after a few minor alterations.

PRADA STYLE VINTAGE SCARF TOP
Click on Video link STITCHLESS TV to watch Lulu transform 2 Vintage scarves into this great top. Lulu hadn't sewn for 20yrs and said this tutorial was a double victory for her. One because she made this great top and two becase 4 years ago she lost all her hair and was diagnosed with Alopicia. She said that usually people expect her to wear scarves on her head, so to wear them as a top was quite liberating.
Fixing an Uncomfortable Sandal
I have two pairs of sandals (one in black and one in brown) that I picked up inexpensively and of course I was so happy to add them to my “collection” that I didn’t walk around in them much before deciding to buy them. The first time that I wore them I found that the beautiful beading rubbed against the top of my foot and made them into “10 minute shoes”. Not what I had in mind when I purchased these.
It took me quite awhile to figure out how to fix them but once I had the idea it was pretty easy to implement. Check out How To Fix Your Sandals for the details.
Puff-Sleeved Chambray Shirt Remake
This is a recent chambray shirt remake I featured on my blog last week as the second instalment of my new Refashion Friday feature. The whole garment is based on a fairly standard commercial blouse sewing pattern (see below). The centre front of the pattern was lined up to the centre of the button stands when cutting out so the existing button stand, buttons and buttonholes would be retained in the final garment. The bust darts were stitched but the waist darts were omitted to make a looser more casual fitting garment.
I retained the original shirt pocket and used the original hem in the final design. Using the existing hem means that the pocket gets pushed up higher than on the original garment. Personally I like that because it's a cheeky reference to the origin of the blouse. If it's not to your taste, any original patch pocket could be removed and either repositioned and reapplied it or discarded altogether.
I drafted the Peter Pan collar for this creation myself because I didn't like the blouse sewing pattern's collar design. I wanted it to stop either side of the button stand. The top collar is embroidery anglaise and the under collar is cut from the chambray harvested from the sleeves of the original shirt. I really like how the anglaise has been left unlined on the puff sleeves though so you'd get a hint of flesh through the holes. The sleeves bands have been made from more of the harvested sleeve fabric. I hope this shirt remake provides a little bit of inspiration.
Happy Refashioning,
yet another granny silk top refashion
So, I don't have a before photo on this one, though I could have sworn that I took one...It's a size 16 long sleeved silk top in a beautiful orangey red color. I seam ripped the sleeves, took in each side about an inch and finished off the sleeve edges. I also gathered the fabric in the back to give it a bit of shape. Here are a couple of photos of how I styled it...casual, which is how I'm wearing it today, and a little more dressy with a hi-low skirt and some previously refashioned wedges. Hope you enjoy and I promise I'll be back into a weekly posting schedule :) Gotta catch up on some after shots!!!
Peace,
Andrea

Top to girls dress
I had this top from a clothes swap I went to last year. I was going to adapt and make it into a dress for myself. However, my daughter decided that she wanted it. So I look in the sides and bust darts, moved the zip and adjusted the shoulders and sleeves, et voila a dress suitable for a child.
More of my makes over on my blog.
Come take a look.

Slippers from old T-shirts
I had a fun time taking strips of old t-shirts and weaving them into fluffy home slippers for the whole family. They're washable too!
You can use any material you like, but I prefer T-shirt material as it doesn't fray and it is a lot thicker than cotton.
Easy Peasy Shoe Renovation
Here is a really simple way to jazz up a pair of old shoes that are looking a bit drab.
All it took was a couple of self covering buttons, a few scraps of one of my favourite vintage fabrics, and a needle and thread.
And here I have a cute and comfy pair of shoes, ready for a night out.

DIY \\Hi-Lo skirt from a Thrifted Vintage Find
A couple weeks ago I found this amazing vintage skirt at the Goodwill outlet:
See it's all vintage, made in the US too ;)
And it has pockets:
Now here is what I did - I put the skirt on ;) As you can tell it's kind of an awkward length and a little loose too!
Then I took a bobby pin (don't judge me - I'm using whatever is available ;) ) And put it where I wanted the highest hem point of the skirt to be:
Next I Laid it flat and drew a line with some soap - the best fabric marker ever made!
And then took my scissors out and cut the excess fabric off:
Then I tried the skirt on again, just to make sure I was happy with the new length:
Then came the hard part - deciding how to accentuate the inner seam, because it was going to be visible either way. I wanted to do a ribbon hem (I saw one in another refashionista's blog), but the ribbon I picked was just wrong for it. So I chose some wide bias tape, also vintage (I freecycled that item)- you can tell by the price on the packaging:
And finally I sewed it on, using my sewing machine, then folded it over and stitched it on by hand:
I promise to post an outfit photo sometime soon! I was originally going to wear this to the wedding, but was too lazy to finish it on time :)
Let me know what you think of this refashion,
xo,
Z
