A Very DIY Kids Pouch

So this isn't my best refashion but I really liked the idea. I think with some refining this could be an excellent use of old kids clothes. I had an old onsie and pant combo that I didn't want to give away because it was stained. I also didn't want to throw it out so I thought about what I could do with it. My three year old is really into purses right now so I decided I would turn the two things into a new purse (well actually its more of a pouch!)

I love the monkeys!

First I cut the legs off the pants.

Then I cut up one side of each pant leg.

Then I pinned the two pieces together on the bottom and both sides leaving the top open.

I sewed these sides together. Now its nearly a pouch!

NextI folded and pinned and then hemmed the top.

Next I cut the monkey out of the onsie to use as a patch on the side of the pouch without a monkey on it.

So cute!!!

I pinned the monkey on and then chose a stitch to sew it on with. I didn't want to use a straight stitch- I wanted something a little more fancy for the patch.

This will do!

Ok its not perfect.....
I had a little fold in the patch when I was done sewing as you can see above. Normally I would redo this but this is for my 3 year old and she won't mind!

Next I wanted a way to close the pouch so I cut the snaps off of the crotch of the onsie. I pinned them to the inside of the pouch and sewed it on.

And here is the finished product:

OOPS! Its sideways!
So Im not the best straight line sewer and certainly there is room for improvement but this is my first attempt. I thought about straps but found my kid liked it the way it was so I called this project done! Next time I will refine this process for better results!

The Loose Gold Shoes

Hello Refashion Co-op. I have another shoe fix for you today. I have had these wild shoes for quite a while. I never wear them because they slip off in the back. My feet must have been swollen when I bought them. I needed to find a way to make these glitzy shoes stay on my feet.

My idea was to attach a strap across the top. It would keep my feet from slipping out. I chose this gold elastic and glued it down under the sole and up the sides.

After gluing as well as I could I did a test run at home. If you try this, I suggest you wear them for a while to make sure they will hold, before you go out in public. You can't see the elastic strap when I am wearing pants and the elastic is very soft and comfortable.

The Vest Jacket

Hello Refashion Co-op. My project today was a vest that didn't get much wear. I like the look but in my part of the country it is either HOT or COLD. There isn't much in between. It is always too hot for a vest or too cold to go without sleeves. I had this heavy sweatshirt from a clothes swap. The logo on the sweatshirt annoys me so...you can guess what I did.

It was quicker than I thought it would be. The sweatshirt won't fray so I just cut the hood and sleeves off and attached them to the vest.

And the body of the sweatshirt was modified for this guy. KC the Wonder Dog is warm and happy.

Dress to Top & Coin Purse

When you can sew you can pick up faulty clothing at discount prices. This top was originally a dress with a broken zip that needed replacing. Also I couldn't see myself wearing a prom style dress so I made it into a top I can pair with jeans & cardigan or a skirt & blazer.

This is their top. I like the dressy one better!
I also made a little purse as they're really quick to make and nice penpal gifts (reusable packaging).

Blue Suede For Days

Hello Refashion Co-op! It is Chickie with a new project I really had fun with. It started as a two piece outfit. It is a faux suede in a beautiful blue. There is just so much of it. I have never seen so much blue suede in my life. Today I will show you the skirt.

Here is the skirt by itself. In addition to the blue suede, there is a satin band around the bottom. Suede and satin? There is so much happening here.  First, I cut off the elastic waistband. Then, I pinned a zipper in the side slit.

Then I did a big flip. The bottom is the top now. I did some measuring and pinning to get the satin band to fit at the waist and hips. It was a bit too big so I had some room to play with it.

And here we are. I like it by itself. A little blue suede goes a long way. (If you ask me.)

Hello again from Cari's Frocks

My name really is  Cari Frock
 and
 I LOVE to sew.

The ingredients: Good Will tank/tunic with interest. Wide lace, brown trim and satin cording.

The brown trim and lace were sewn on all at once, then all the cording was laced thru.

Now the top is just a bit longer. NICE. I wear it with brown or cream leggings or skinny pants.

Til next time...happy stitching!!

Fun With Fabric Paint Part 4

Sadly we have come to the last post in the "Fun With Fabric Paint" segment.
I started with this plain maroon tank top.
My inspiration for this comes from people telling my husband that he looks like shaggy from Scooby Doo, which is actually accurate. He's so cute. So naturally we love everything Scooby Doo!
I found this picture of two villains chasing the Scooby Doo crew online, printed it and cut it out to make a stencil.
The side...

And the back!
Hope you enjoyed my segment with fabric paint as much as I did! Stay tuned for more refashioning!!!
Here are all 4 of my creations for the "Fun With Fabric Paint" posts:

Scarf to Infinity Scarf

A few months ago the husband came home from work with a present for me! Apparently one of the girls he works with took a trip to the middle east and brought back a bunch of beautiful scarfs for all of her co-workers, my husband being a male got to bring a scarf home for me!
A beautifully bright colored scarf! Now, I like scarfs as much as the next person but I really prefer them to be infinity scarfs. I just love how they look all bunched up!

I took a piece of yellow lace and sewed it to the scarf to make it an infinity scarf.
I wore my new scarf on our drive down to Florida. Who says you can't be comfy and look cute too, when on a road trip!

We hit Florida and ran into a long backup of traffic. So close yet so far!

Perfectly cute for traveling clothes!

Happy Refashioning!!!

Christmas Refash

First of all I would like to wish each and every one of you readers a very Merry Christmas! I hope you are able to celebrate with friends and  family!

Traditionally, my family's Christmas celebration is on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day is a nice and relaxing time with the husband. However, this year is a little different...Christmas Day will be spent making the long drive down to Florida to visit my grandpappy who has been in the hospital.
So here is my refash that I was able to wear Christmas Eve when we had my parents over for dinner!

Oh lordy, looks like it could be a jumpsuit.

I shortened the shoulders to make the top not so revealing.

I chopped off about 10 inches.

Then hemmed it.

But wait....Look at these...

This dress comes complete with awesome Christmas buttons!!! How cool is that!?!

Merry Christmas!!!

Happy Refashioning!!!
