A Spider Shirt for Halloween

Hello Refashion Co-op. It is Halloween here and that means costumes and candy. I am not that into costumes so I tried to make a fun but subdued shirt to wear for the day. I was inspired by something I saw on Pinterest.

I started with a plain black t-shirt. I found a scrap of lace for the neckline, it was just cheap polyester, but it worked well here.

I had this spider pin in a drawer or quite a while. You can see he didn't do very well in that drawer. He lost a couple legs. I thought he still looked like a spider and used him in his broken state.

Here is a closer shot of the shoulder with the spider. I attached a small piece of embroidery thread so it looked like the spider was still spinning the web. I can take the pin off when it is time to wash the shirt. I like the spider up on my shoulder too.

A Pirate's Life!

It's that fun time of year when it's perfectly fine to dress up in costumes!  This year, my husband and I dressed as pirates.  I was able to take two leather coats (one not pictured) and turn them into a fun pirate corset.

AFTER

I even made a new blouse with a fun sleeve detail.

Can you tell from the pictures what part of the coat was used to cut the new bodice?

Denim Days; Jean Jackets

Hello Refashion Co-op. I had fun adding some glitz and glam to this denim jacket. I went through my odds and ends of trim and added trim here and there on the jacket.

I made the sleeves 3/4 length and tapered the sleeves a little to improve the fit. I added a little more trim after this because it just didn't seem like enough. I stitched pieces here and there depending where they fit best.

At this point I thought the amount of trim was just right. I didn't want to go too far with it and look like I was covered in Christmas tree tinsel.

Denim Days; Much Too Distressed

Hello Refashion Co-op. My jeans were too distressed. I loved these pink jeans but all the distressing I did made them awful to wear on cold fall days. I could put them away until spring or I could try to fix them.

I put some scrap fabric inside the leg of the jeans and used a zigzag stitch to close the holes. Some holes were too large to close so I stitched around the edges and let the brown fabric peek out.

I really liked how they turned out. They still look a little messy and distressed but they are a lot warmer now. That was what I wanted. I liked the messy distressing, I just didn't like the cold. (Does the leg on the right look like a sleeping face? Is it just me?)

"Denim Days; Miss Green Jeans"

Hello Refashion Co-op. I should have titled this post "A Green Mistake" because I made a disaster of a shirt. I decided to focus on the jeans since they turned out OK.

These thick green stretchy jeans would be great for cool fall temperatures.  If they were not so baggy and long.

I did some resizing and the green jeans were done. I had plenty of time to make a shirt to go with them. Right?

I wanted to make a shirt using these green and brown shirts as parts.

After an first disaster shirt, I added some simple trim to this white t-shirt and called it a day. Does anyone else create totally messed up clothes?

A Very Yellow Refashion

Oh look what we have here, readers! We have a bright brand new refashion for you!
IMG_2375[1424]
I found this traditional Mexican style dress a few years ago with the tags still on it! I have been eyeing it but still haven’t had much inspiration for this. It’s cute but it’s pastel colors was not my taste. What to do, what to do?
DSCN1673
I decided to dye it yellow. Which made this dress stand out, which I’m not too sure how I feel about it.
I took the bottom layer off to shorten it, but it was still too much yellow!
DSCN1677
I then decided to break up the yellow by using this yellow and gray tank top.
DSCN1678
I decided to attach the top shoulder ruffle to the tank top and then attach the skirt part to the bottom of the tank top. This will definitely break up this banana yellow dress!
I cut a few inches above the waist elastic so I had some fabric to attach the tank top to.

I’m still thinking of ways to to break up the intense yellow of this dress, when it dawned on me! I can use my Brother Scan n Cut to add a vinyl decal onto the dress. I found a pretty clip art picture of a bird, printed it, scanned it and cut the design out on gray vinyl! I ironed that onto the bottom of my skirt.

I then pinned the top ruffle onto the top of the tank top and stitched that on. Once that was done I sewed thee bottom skirt onto the tank top to make it a dress!

I’m happy with how it turned out despite it being very yellow. I like yellow, but it was a lot all together!

Denim Days; The Denim Suit Jacket

Hello Refashion Co-op. I am still deep in my denim binge. Cooler weather means wearing jeans to me. I have had this unique jacket for a few years now. It was part of a suit. I couldn't decide what to do with this jacket, so it sat for a long time.

The jacket was a little big and long on me. I also thought the original big buttons were just a little too big. I replaced the buttons and shortened the sleeves and body of jacket.

The buttons were from my stash of buttons. They don't match each other, but I really liked how they coordinate.

I liked how the jacket turned out. My mother-in-law did too.

Simple T-Shirt Update

Hi readers! Sorry it's been a few weeks since I've posted. I have several fun things to share with you in the weeks to come. Remember, Halloween is coming up! :)

Today I have a quick and simple t-shirt refash to share, that I am SUPER happy with!

DSCN1684.JPG
I found this nice t-shirt with a fit that was just blah.

DSCN1682
I have a Little Mermaid nightgown that I just LOVE! I also love the small keyhole in the front of my nightgown. I figure if my night clothes have such a cute detail, why not add it to some daytime wear?

With my nightgown as a template I traced the outline of the key hole onto some paper to make a pattern.

DSCN1685
I then used my paper pattern to cut out the key hole in my t-shirt. Then I stitched up the sides of the key hole. There you have it! Simple t-shirt refash! But it's Oh-So-Cute!

After I stitched the key hole, I put my shirt back on my dress form and pinned the sides in a bit to make the fit a little more feminine. Then I stitched that up!

Aster d'automne

Denim Days; The White Jacket

Hello Refashion Co-op. I love denim. I wear it all the time. I was really happy to find this white denim jacket at a clothes swap this summer. I don't have any white denim.

The jacket was in great shape but it was just a lot of white. I decided to play with some dye.

I set up a bucket of dye and started lowering the jacket into the dye. I used a hanger to hold it and every 10 minutes I added a hanger so the jacket got lower and lower into the dye. It took about an hour in total.

I really liked the ombre effect I got.

I didn't alter the jacket at all. I liked the roomy fit for wearing over sweaters in the cooler weather.
