This past Saturday was my wonderful mom’s Birthday! To celebrate we braved the cold Michigan weather and took her out to a restaurant for an outdoor eating experience. Also, for the occasion, I refashioned a sweater that she had donated to me!
Adorably cozy black sweater with pearl accents!
I flipped the sweater inside out and pinned the sides and arms in to make it more fitted. Took that over to my sewing machine and stitched it on up!
Now for the off the shoulder look! I opened up the top of the shoulder seams and pinned the opening back and stitched around the entire neckline.
Hello, have you seen lately instagram of Elsa Hosk or Kendall Jenner ? I noticed 2 quite similar coats with awesome waistline. If you have elastic and sewing machine you can easy obtain such look on your own coat or cardigan or too big swater too. It's wonderful idea to give new life to your old or thrifted too big coat.
Hello Refashion Co-op. 2020 has made me dress much more casual, most of the time. I was handed down this dress and wanted it to fit better and be more fun.
I did some cutting and altering. I used a favorite shirt as a guide.
Hell Refashion Co-op. Happy 2021 to all of you. Let's hope it is a better year. I put this outfit together for $1. That is a good way to start 2021, right?
This sweater was my husbands and it has the company logo from a job he had ages ago. I wanted to resize it and cover that logo.
I used this flower to cover the logo. The flower was on a box of Tieks that my daughter bought. It had an elastic band on it. I cut the elastic off and pinned it to my sweater like a broach. It covered the logo perfectly.
These denim jeans had a great pattern. I got them for less than $1 at a thrift store bag sale. They just needed to fit better at the waist and hips. I tapered the calves to make them skinny jeans.
The fit of both of these was much better and I got them both almost for free.
Hello Refashion Co-op. Happy New Year to all of you. I refashioned and wore dresses an ties all of December in honor of Dressember. Dressember is an organization that fights human trafficking. It a fun way to raise awareness of this issue. This last refashion is also my first refashion of 2021.
My husband got a small hole in this cotton sweater. I loved the color so
I decided to make myself a skirt from his sweater. I thought a few months ago that we might
do something fun for New Year's Eve. (We did not go anywhere. Thanks
Corona virus.)
I cut out a straight pencil skirt shape and sewed it together.
I used the hem of the sweater as the waistband of my new skirt. The stretch of the sweater makes the skirt fit well.
Thanks for reading along, for more pictures and details go to my blog.
Are you ready for Part 2 of my Beach Ready Refash?!? I am very excited to share this one with you all!
I had this canvas tote laying around waiting for a new life! I also found this fantatic flamingo shirt from the thrift store! I LOVE flamingos so this shirt is perfect for me, except the size….a tad too small.
I cut out around the flamingos and ironed it to some heat ‘n bond so I can iron it to the canvas bag.
Ironing the flamingo decal to the canvas bag.
Once the flamingos were ironed on I went around the edges with pink puffy paint to make it look more finished.
While the pink puffy paint was drying I moved to the inside of the tote. I grabbed an old teal pillow case to make a lining for the tote.
I used some of the leftover pillow case to make a small pocket for the inside.
The finished inside! Complete with pocket!
I found this adorable pompom ribbon at the Dollar Tree! I sewed that around the top!
To finish off my new tote I sewed on these big pink buttons!
Happy New Years Eve everyone!!! I am not going to say 2020 was the worst year but I will say it has been a unique year. Full of ups and downs but I always found thr positive in each situation. However, with all this craziness I found little time to sew as much as I would have liked, but 2021 will be a new start! I am anxious for a new year of refashioning! So, with that said let’s end the year that last refashion of 2020.
My mom bought me this fantastic cactus shirt, knowing I would refashion it!
*The pants in the picture are a work in progress for a later time.* I decided this white shirt needed some color! What could be better than my favorite color: pink?!?
I used Rit’s liquid dye in Pink .
Fill washer machine with HOT water (enough for the garment to flow freely)
Add 1 cup salt in the washer along with the liquid dye (for cotton). Use an extended cycle.
Rinse the fabric in HOT water and add to the dye bath in the washer.
Once the washer is done filling, be sure to set the water temperature to cold (for the rinse cycle)
BE SURE to clean the washer IMMEDIATELY with hot water and 1 cup bleach.
The shirt had a seam down the back, which I took in to make the shirt fitted.
I cut off the hem of the sleeves.
I also cut about 3 inches off the bottom. The last thing I did was to cut a slit up the middle front of the shirt and tie the pieces together.
Ta da! This shirt is beach ready, if only it wasn’t December and I wasn’t in Michigan. Can’t wait to wear this in the summer!
