Une blouse pour les fêtes ......

Oulala !

Dresses For December Part 9, The Choir Robe

Hello Refashion Co-op. This is my last dress refashion of my December series. The long black dress was pretty but very long on me. It reminded me of the choir robes when I was in school.

I decided to cut off the bottom of the dress and use it as a skirt. This is what was left when I cut off what I wanted to use. What you see here is the top of the dress and the lining from underneath.

I also had this knit top. I really liked it but it was just a little short to wear with jeans without exposing my stomach. I don't like to show my stomach so I wanted to find a different way to wear it.

I attached the piece of the dress to the waistband of the knit shirt. The waistband could hold the skirt up and tighten together and act like elastic to define the waist of the dress. I liked how it turned out but my son said I looked depressing and "goth". You can't please everyone.

I plan to use the rest of that dress next time. Thanks for reading, for more pictures and details go to I Can Work With That.

Dresses For December Part 8, Using Dye

Hello Refashion Co-op. December is coming to an end and so is my dress series. This is 8 of 9, so I am almost done.

This little cotton dress was my size but I didn't like the shape. Well, I didn't like the lack of shape. It was loose everywhere but tight across the chest. It was also too cold for these little spaghetti straps. The color was a little drab too.

I decided to dye the dress. I used Denim Blue. It would make the cotton dress look more like a denim dress. That would brighten up the color and it would look more appropriate for the winter season.
And it is so easy to use.

Here is my dress. The color is richer. The fabric has more punch and the colors work together well. I added this sweater too. It keeps me warm and it is a fail from the past. It was a really long  sweater. I tried to make it a more normal length and made it too short to wear with jeans. It works perfect over this dress. It keeps me warm and defines my waist a little too.

Christmas Crushed Velvet Refash

I hope all of you had a very Merry Christmas and spent time enjoying time with family! I wish you all a very Happy and Healthy New Year!

DSCN0653
This is the dress I had used last year to refashion for Refashion Runway Season 4: All Stars. I used the top half back then and I had kept the bottom scrap for a later date.
Well, that later date was Christmas this year! Crushed velvet seems to be a hot item this year, so I decided to use this scrap and jump on the bandwagon!

DSCN1436
Here is the bottom half of the dress. It was perfect to finish in to a skirt, it just needed some elastic for the waist.

DSCN1437
I folded over the top of the skirt just enough to be able to cover the elastic. I left a 1 inch gap so I could thread the elastic through. I sewed it up later..

DSCN1439Used my trusty Bodkin to thread through the elastic. I know I have said this before, but this is just the handiest little tool!

DSCN1441
I sewed the elastic together, overlapping by about 1 1/2 inches.

DSCN1442
I stitched up the 1 inch hole I left open to thread the elastic through.

I had such a wonderful Christmas Eve with my family and hubby! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas filled with loving family as well!

Happy Refashioning!!!

Just Add sleeves

I took this jersey knit dress in a warmer direction this week.

I separated the skirt away from the bodice to make this cape/wrap thing

(And tell me if there is a real name for this particular style besides cape/wrap thing:)

Dresses For December Part 7, The Dowdy One

Hello Refashion Co-op. I had a really sad and dowdy dress that I wanted to update. I liked the fit and that's about it. Black is always basic and goes with anything but it can look a little stern and cold. It was so long on me that it just looked a little over-whelming on me.

I gave this dress a big cut off the length and gave it a new hem.

I love this dress now. It is more relaxed and easy to wear now. I like the full skirt and it has pockets! I love pockets.

This one was a quick and simple update. That was great for me, this time of year is always busy. Happy Holidays to you where ever you are and whatever you celebrating at your house.

Lace Ruffle Top Refashion Using Embroidered Patches

This little lace top was one of my absolute favorites a couple of years ago. Sadly, the dye from the shirt transferred onto the collar, so it went into my refashion pile. I had some extra floral embroidered patches from another project, so I decided to play around with them.

Here's what I did:

1. I added the floral patches and hand sewed them on. Even though I really dislike hand sewing, I felt I had way better control sewing them on this way, especially with all the little curves and edges the patches have.

\

2. I cut off the collar and added new neck binding out of a matching fabric. I couldn't believe how well it matched with the floral patches! :)

3. To finish the top off, I added some ruffles to the sleeves, in the same floral fabric as the neck binding.

TA DA! New and updated top! :)

Dresses For December Part 6, Shrunken Lace

Hello Refashion Co-op. I have been working on dresses all this month and this lace dress was nice but needed a couple fixes to make it wearable.

The lace on this dress had shrunk somehow, probably in the wash. I couldn't wear it like this. The lining is hanging out from under it.

I decided to add some length with a piece of black lace. It was a quick and easy way to lengthen the dress a little.

The sheer sleeves were too long and hung over my hands. I needed shorter sleeves.

I added some narrow elastic to the seam around the wrist and it made a little cuff at the end of the sleeves. It stays above my hand now, that will work much better for me.

The dress is fit to wear in public now. The lining is covered, as it should be and my hands are not covered, just as they should be.

Old Hoodie, New Hat...plus the pattern is FREE! (for now...)

Recently I decided to get put this hoodie that never fit right to good use.

I was testing a new hat pattern (link to free pattern below) and I had to make lots of samples to check the fit and size and construction.  You see, this pattern can be made in 7 sizes from newborn to adult!  So using this hoodie was a perfect option.

My daughter is modeling an early version:

Eventually I decided to leave off the ears and ended up with a reversible beanie that can be worn 4 ways like this one that used up the rest of that orange hoodie!

If you'd like a FREE copy of the pattern (which is free until 1/1/2018) just click on the link below image below.  When you add the pattern to your cart, the price will change from $3 to $0.  It's perfect for last minute stocking stuffers and stash busting!

Dresses For December Part 5, The Shirt Dress

Hello Refashion Co-op. I have been working on dresses this month and I made one from a 2XL men's dress shirt. I liked the black and gray color scheme and the stripes. It would be a great little black shirt dress when I was finished.

The first thing I did was remove the cuffs and save them for later.

I made the shirt more narrow and made the sleeves shorter. I added the cuffs back onto the sleeves to make them look more neat and finished. It just needed a belt to define the waist a little.

With a lot of layers and thick tights I was ready to go out and run errands in the cold. It was really super cold and windy.

Dresses For December Part 4, The Big Vest

Hello Refashion Co-op. This is my fourth dress so far this month. I am stretching my brain trying to make different looking dresses. It is a lot of fun.
Today's dress started as a big loose knit vest.

I'm not kidding this vest was really big. I like the black and white color scheme but it looks like a blanket on me.

I put it on my dress form inside-out and just started pinning it together. I closed the front of this vest with the pins and then sewed it shut.

I cut off the excess fabric and used a little of it to make these narrow strips of fabric to add some length to the hem. It made it a little longer.

I turned it around and put the seam in the back. I had a cute little knit dress to wear. It is very soft and cozy.
