Vintage embroidery pouch

A few weeks ago, I visited a pretty nice and big thrift store, when my eye fell on this beautiful vintage embroidery. A seamstress working in the light of the window, a nice fireplace and a cat playing, somehow it seemed just like a painting by the Dutch painter Vermeer to me (I'm obviously no expert). An adorable piece of embroidery and I just had to take it with me for a small project: I wanted to turn it in to a small pouch. And so it happened...

Enjoy!

You are very welcome to visit vermaakster.blogspot.com for more details and pictures. You'll find a step by step explanation there in Dutch and English!

Making a No-Sew Leather Wrap Belt

Hello Refashion Co-op. My last post was about a skirt and I used the scraps from that skirt to make this wrap belt.

Before and after.

This is the scrap piece I had to work with.

I cut it so that the back would be wider than the front. The narrow ends will cross over each other in the front.

I punched a hole into one end of the belt and put this leather cord through the hole.

This video shows how I wrapped it. It is very simple and very adjustable. That is the best feature to me. It will never get too small. Thanks for reading along, for more details go to I Can Work With That.

An Almost No-Sew Leather Skirt Refashion

Hello Refashion Co-op. I shortened this leather skirt in a fun way. I just started cutting.

Before and after.

I cut some of the length off and saved that piece for later. This skirt was long on me so there was plenty to cut off.

I cut narrow fringe all around the hem of the skirt.

I used my serger to finish the lining fabric. This is the only sewing I did.

Altering a Sweater Knit Poncho

Hello Refashion Co-op. I love to refashion and sometimes I do not know when to stop. This sweater was such a case. I started with this big loose fitting poncho and I didn't really know when to say when.

Before and after. And after. And after.

I felt like Luke Skywalker in this thing. It needed some changes.

I made it more narrow and used the waist tie as a belt. I should have stopped here because it looked perfect over this dress. But I didn't.

I made the neck smaller and less bulky.

Then I went down a cottage core path that didn't really turn out well. The pockets were puckered and the lace was stiff. I couldn't unpick all the stitches to remove the pockets. I tried but it was impossible. So...

I cut the sweater in the middle. I attached the waist tie to cover the cut edge and it finished the waist of the sweater nicely. I am 100% really done now. Thanks for reading along, for more pictures and details go to I Can Work With That.

Making a Peplum Top With a Scarf

Hello Refashion Co-op. You probably know that I like to put different things together to see what happens. I used a plain (Very plain!) men's shirt and a scarf to make a peplum top.

This brown top was pretty boring but the scarf had great fall colors.

I shortened the sleeves and cut the body of the shirt in the middle.

I cut the scarf in half and used half of it for the front of the shirt and half for the back of the shirt. Thanks for reading along, you can see more details and pictures on my blog, I Can Work With That; Refashions by Chickie W.U.
