Sleeveless Problems?

Does anyone else have problems wearing strapless dresses? I always find the cutest strapless dresses but I hate wearing them because they are always slipping down on me. Well, I have the perfect solution!
DSCN1979
Grab yourself a tank top of any kind! I happened to love this lace one!

DSCN1984
First I put the lace tank top onto my dress form then slipped the strapless dress ontop.
I pinned the two pieces together, and stitched them together on my machine!

A simple but super cute solution to the strapless problem!

The Hot Sauce Dress

Hello Refashion Co-op. How are you? Arr you awesome today? If so then I have the perfect sundress for you!

I cut this big men's t-shirt into 2 rectangular shapes. I didn't want the shoulders or sleeves.

I made a casing at the top of my tube dress and put elastic through it. I also used some the extra shirt material to make straps.

I was ready for some fun in the sun.

How to Convert Jeans Into a Bandage Skirt

Bandage skirts are extremely feminine, most if not all  women look in them fabulous as they accent all pluses of woman's figure that's why  I decided to go level up and not only sew bandage skirt but also create one from jeans I trifted some time ago .
I used shady grey jeans but I think you will receive great effect from all kind of stretchy fabric.
I wrote it in my video but I will repeate here because it's important note , it's  the best option and I recommend you to use stretchy fabric  but if you don't have one or you really  really like not elastic  material don't worry you can use it as well just you must add to it zipper , drats and waistband .

The Peasant Skirt Dress

Hello Refashion Co-op. How are all of you? I hope you are well and safe. I have been trying to work through my refashion stash since I have not gone to any clothes swaps or thrift stores in quite a while. I am trying to find a use for all the things I have saved. These 2 pieces needed help. I cut the bottom tier of the skirt of a couple years ago to make something and I saved what was left of the skirt. The striped t-shirt caught my eye at a swap a long time ago but it was cropped and I was afraid my saggy mom stomach would show if I wore it. (My weird belly button is my business.)

I cut the lining of the skirt and hemmed it all up. That was easy.

I wanted to make sure the shirt stayed tucked in. I pinned it all together and tacked the skirt and shirt together in several places. I had to do this twice to make sure everything gathered evenly.

I ended up with a super comfortable dress. I liked the elastic waistband and the pattern mixing very much.

Super easy way to turn old pants to slit skirt

I bought this pijama pants in thrift shop few days ago and instantly knew that I will refashion them into skirt. At first I thought about simply  not too long skirt but  this fabric ,  clear colors and this lovely floral pattern  convinced me that long slit skirt will better option.
Plus I will be able to wear it not only during summer season , with long boots it'll be perfect for autumn and spring as well .

Tie-Dye Loungewear

Hello Refashion Co-op. I liked the colors of this tie-dye dress but the fit was pretty sad.

I decided to make a 2 piece outfit. I used a pattern and cut out the shorts.

I added a waistband to the shorts.  It was cut off a sweatshirt a long time ago.

I made the top of the dress a little more narrow and I had a matching shirt and shorts.

A Bathrobe to Peasant Blouse Refashion

This refashion started out as a bathrobe I bought at the thrift store 2 years ago.  I threw it in my stash and then forgot I had it until I rediscovered it last week.

Can we just stand back and admire the print for for a bit?  I can't resist a bright, pretty floral.  This fabric was begging to be refashioned into a romantic, peasant blouse.

I love wearing peasant blouses in the summer.  I don't tan, I burn, so I need all the coverage I can get.

How To Modify Low Waist Jeans To High Waist Jeans | diy

I found those lovely jeans on sale, they were way too big , too long  and low waisted which meant just loosing of my money in case of buying  but I really liked the color and fabric , it's not easy to find so trendy color .
I bought them having great ideas in my mind how to change them,as first make them high waisted , that's must have now ! second convert them from loose to skinny and as third make trouser legs jagged as it looks really cool  with flat shoes.

A No Sew Summer Dress

Hello Refashion Co-op. It is getting really warm where I live. A summer dress would be great right about now. I made a quick no sew

I cut slits in the waistband to make armholes.

You can see here how the slits open and the waistband makes wide shoulder straps. I cut the length off quite a bit. I needed it to be shorter. I used the hem from the skirt as a belt to draw in the waist. Any belt would work for this. The new cut hem won't fray because it is knit material.

*** Optional Sewing ***
I added this black trim to my dress but you don't have too. This was just for fun.

This was one of those comfy easy dresses that are easy to wear. And it matched my dog.

diy summer dress

When I bought this very big man's shirt I knew I will want to make something with gathering and sweetheart necklace as I like very much  those two trends in fashion.
At first I wasn't sure if I will have enought fabric as all my  dresses must be wearable that often just means not too short but with good  distribute ,as I showed in my video, it's totally possible.
Shirt was made from 100 % egyptian cotton , perfect material for summer.
I also wanted to leave orginal buttonline because as first those buttons are just cute and as second it's cotton , great fabric but still not elastic , if dress have to be near body bottons are just a must have and I really wanted this dress to be perfect fitted, I even used for it special method with masking tape.

Going to Work in the Heat

Hello Refashion Co-op. I hate being hot. I decided to make some cropped wide-legged pants to stay cooler. I started with some pants with loose fitting legs.

I cut them a lot shorter and gave them a new hem. I also played Legos with my youngest.

I also closed the keyhole opening  and made the armholes a bit smaller in this navy blue tank top. I wanted more coverage.

Bunched Up Refashion

Wow where has the month of May gone to?! I was lucky enough to squeeze this refash in! Hope you enjoy!
DSCN1932
Once again I found myself rumaging through the clothes my mom gifted me and found this top! I LOVE plain white tops, there are so many possibilities!

DSCN1940
I used Rit's liquid dye in Hycainth.
  1. Fill washer machine with HOT water (enough for the garmet to flow freely)
  2. Add 1 cup salt in the washser along with the liquid dye. Use an extended cycle.
  3. Rinse the fabric in HOT water and add to the dye bath in the washer.
  4. Once the washer is done filling, be sure to set the water temperatue to cold (for the rinse cycle)
BE SURE to clean the washer IMMEDIATELY with hot water and 1 cup bleach.

DSCN1950
This came out a little deeper purple than expected, but I'm still happy with it!
My next step was to make the top more fitted but I didn't want to take in the sides because that would mess up the cool bunching on the front. I toyed around with a few ways to make it tighter and ended up really liking how I pulled the excess fabric together in the back.

IMG_5029
To accent the bunched fabric on the front I added 2 white buttons.

IMG_5030
After I sitched the excess fabric in the back I added a white button to pull it together.

Reimagined Raincoat

For once I remembered to take before pictures.  Sort of.  This is more a repair than a refashion though, so the base coat is the same.

This is one of a series of raincoats that are given out as part of the kit for my kid's high-school exchange.  Given it happens every year (and how many raincoats do you need in a dry climate?) this one was on its way out.  But I didn't want to donate it as it has her name and school etc embroidered on it. So firmly that it was never coming off.  I know because I tried until I made holes.

Additionally it had accumulated a large number of tears like this one.  They were very visible when repaired so they needed to be covered, along with all the identifiers.  It's a very well made coat and it's lined and cosy.  With lots of interior pockets.  So I decided it was all mine.

I spent a lot of time planning this refashion and it got quite elaborate before I calmed down.  There was going to be stenciling and embellishments and applique and embroidery...in the end I used recycled denim circles and a little embroidery for detail.

The denim circles were made with a sewing machine attachment that sews a perfect circle.  It fits into the bobbin cover / plate hole, you spike the fabric at the appropriate radius, set the stitch type and length - I've used a zigzag / satin stitch - and hit the pedal.  I made a lot of circles so I could play with placement and have many left for other projects. They're designed to fray at the edge.

I've already worn this a few times since I finished it and it's great to wear.  Unlike some raincoats, this one breathes so I don't overheat while striding around, and it cuts the wind.  It also has a hood if I get caught without an umbrella.

Happy refashioning!

Mimi
