Beach Glass Dye Dress

I got an email from Rit Dye with 3 new color blends for summer! I was very anxious to try 2 of the 3 colors. This color combo is called Bach Glass!
I had this PERFECT white cotton dress for this project!

1 st rinse the garment in HOT water.
The Beach Glass Recipe is:
1/2 cup Aquamarine Liquid Dye
1 Tablespoon Lemon Yellow
3 gallons HOT water
I added the dye to a washer machine filled with HOT water. Then 1 Tablespoon liquid detergent and 1 cup salt.
The salt will help the dye to stick to the fabric.

The coverage of the dye wasn't perfect. Probably because this was not a fresh brand new garment, who knows what was spilled on this dress.
Anyway I wanted to make this dress into a halter dress.
I cut the back of the dress off from the back of the collar. Then I pinned under the front of the sides.

Onto the back! I folded down the back flap of the dress to make a back hem. Sewed that!

After I cut secured the back I needed to make it more fitted. I tucked the excess material at the underarm area.
After all my alterations the dress was still too large for me. I came up with the idea of pulling the dress up and securing it at the back of the neck.
I found the middle of the collar and cut it. I stitched up both sides of the collar then I made two button holes and sewed 2 buttons on the back of the collar.

The Button Down Dress/Jacket

Hello Refashion Co-op. This hand-me-down dress was a little tight on top for me. I really liked the idea of making it into a jacket-shirt and wearing it open.

I cut the top of the dress off and hemmed it. I used the hem at the bottom to make a matching belt.

I wasn't sure what to do with the ends of the belt. I stitched the ends at the back and added a couple buttons to make it look more finished. It also kept the ends out of the way. I liked that it looked a little like a trench coat.

The Ex-X Top

Before

After

This top was given to me as a gift, and I really liked its unique construction with the X-shaped panels crossing the front and shoulders.

Unfortunately, like a lot of clothing with "unique" construction, it just looked terrible when I actually tried to wear it!

I cut off the sleeves because it was too tight over my shoulders, and, when I cut the X-shaped panels where they met at the side seams, they sort of magically converted themselves into a cute little pussy bow!

Since the X in the front is gone now, I call the shirt my ex-X top.

Very minimal sewing was involved in this refashion; it was basically just a few snips of the scissors! Of course, I have a whole story to share if you're into that, but you've already gotten the gist of it!

Here's to pleasant surprises!

Dress from skirt

szycie-sukienki-krok-po-kroku-blog

Summer is coming to an end , but with warm sweater we can still wear dresses in autumn,
that's why I made this quick refashion.
I loved the colors and patterns on this skirt, but it was way too big for me so I had no choice only to change it in something wearable , there was so much material I could resize it and change into dress.  This is what I call a good deal.

Stripes; 1 of 2

Hello Refashion Co-op. I liked these navy blue dresses a lot but the stripes were a little big and shapeless. The button-down dress just needed to be something else.

I took the striped dress in a little on each side and it helped so much.

But what about this button-down dress?

At first I made it into a shorter jacket and then I though a vest would be better.

I was really happy with this outfit and I think the vest is a new favorite refashion.

How to Make a long Cardigan from sweater

Do you like long sweaters ❔ I love them❗ especially during  windy autumn and cold winter.
There is no better feeling than warm, fluffy material on your skin when cold wind blows.
If you have 2 spare sweaters you don't love so much any more you may sew long warm cardigan and fall in love with them again.

The Denim Dress with Wierd Sleeves

Hello Refashion Co-op. I had a great denim dress that was really cute. It was difficult to actually wear. That is what started this refashion.

I liked this dress but when I raised my arms the whole dress came up with it. It also seemed to get stuck in the up position. This made it dangerously short. I tries to remove the sleeves and keep the shoulder straps but that didn't fit well either.

Then I had a strapless dress that I didn't really like. It didn't fit well and I felt only half dressed. So now what?

The dress became a great skirt. I used elastic and made a very gathered waist. It was super comfortable. I went to a car show. I am not really into cars but my 4 year old LOVED it.

This Refash is for the Birds

My newly recent hobby of the year is backyard bird watching. I have become obsessed with watching the birds at my bird feeders. I keep a journal of the many kinds of birds that come to visit.

I inherited this shirt from my mom, who accidentally shrunk it. Lucky me!

I remembered that I had bird appliques, which is now very appropriate due to my new love for birds!
Iron the front of the applique for 30 seconds to tack it down.
Then flip the fabric inside out and iron applique for 50 seconds.

Let cool, it will be HOT!
