Jeans slippers with Sashiko embroidery

Making my own slippers has been on my list for some time. And when my favourite jeans and my slippers were worn out, I had the perfect excuse. There is something funny about the word slippers, by the way. The word slippers means flip-flops in Dutch (so, we actually wear our 'slippers' with our bathing suits, not with our pyjamas).

You may have noticed that I'm into embroidery lately... For this project, I was inspired by Sashiko, a Japanese traditional embroidery style, and I embroidered white flowers on the jeans slippers. I must say I really like how it turned out.

Enjoy!

Dress Up a Free T-shirt

Hello Refashion Co-op. I am sure you get as many free t-shirts as I do. They just seem to show up. I got a cocoa brown shirt recently and I wanted to make it cuter.

Before and after.

I mixed a little acrylic paint together to match the brown of the shirt. I painted over the lettering to hide it as much as I could.

I let the paint dry over night.

I attached a piece of lace to the front of the shirt. It was a scrap that I saved.

The lace really hides the lettering and the paint job I did. All you can see is the lace. Thanks for reading a long, for more pictures and details go to I Can Work With That.

Ruffle Shirt to Skirt

Hello Refashion Co-op. I found this fabulous ruffled top at a clothes swap. It was 100% silk and I thought it was just amazing. It was light weight but it was a little bulky looking on me. And I wasn't in love with those tiny straps. As soon as I saw it I thought it really needed to be a fun skirt.

Before and after.

I cut the top off the top.

I used the serger on the cut edge.

Then I turned the edge in and made a casing for an elastic waistband. I wanted to be comfortable in my fun skirt.

I love how it turned out. For more pictures and details go to I Can Work With That.

Altering Clothes while Wearing Them

Hello Refashion Co-op. Have you seen the videos of people cutting and altering their clothes while they are wearing them? I always thought it was a crazy idea so I decided to try it. I love crazy ideas. I wanted to see if it would work for me.

Is this a good idea?

I was able to cut it and I tied it in the front. It doesn't look terrible at first glance but is this a good idea?

It was a ragged mess. I fixed it the old fashioned way, ironing, turning it under and stitching it down.

I liked the knot in the front and it fit better like this too. I do not recommend cutting while wearing. It was fun to try though. Thanks for reading along, you can see more at I Can Work With That.

Southwest Refashion

I have been reminiscing about my time on Refashion Runway, what fun! I wanted to share one of my favorites with you! P.S- I actually still wear this outfit!

When I think of Southwest I think of cowboys or ranchers. Then I got to thinking about Southwest fashion. These cowboys need rugged durable clothing for their tough work outside in the elements. With that being said I thought to myself why can’t I mix rugged with feminine style? I found this perfect suede dress, crocheted skirt and sweater dress as my materials!

The Sweater:

Daytime in the desert can be sweltering heat but the nighttime temperatures drop drastically. This is why I featured a long sweater in my Southwest refashion.

I cut the front of the sweater to open it up. Then hemmed the raw edges of each side.

I removed the cowl from the sweater.

I switched the black buttons into silver buttons. Nothing says Southwest to me like silver!

I had been hanging onto this shirt for the perfect project and it looks like this was it! I love the geometric design of the embroidery which to me is very Southwestern style.

I stitched the shirt panel and the crocheted panel together.

I cut down the length of the back of the sweater and added the new panel I made.

I removed the pockets.

Another thing that makes me think of the southwest is Navajo drawings. I found this adorable lizard picture online, which I cut out and make it a stencil. I pulled out my trusty fabric paints and went to town!

I used a decorative stitch while stitching the front into a v-neck.

I added the bottom hem of the crocheted skirt to the bottom hem of my dress, which gave the suede the feminine touch I was looking for!

REPORT THIS AD

Once my v-neck was done I added a small amount of the crocheted material into the V.

I was lucky enough to have these beads stashed away for the right project! I think this buffalo nickel button is PERFECT for this project!

Happy Refashioning!!!
