Striped Skirt Refash

Happy New Year to all of you, my dear readers! One of my goals for this year is to do some more sewing and expand my sewing skills!

I was very drawn to this skirt because of the bow and I love the heavier fabric!

The one thing I was not a fan was the length and how the bottom stripes went the opposite way. Really upset my OCD.

I sat down with my seam ripper and removed the bottom piece of material. It already looks better!

After that I sewed a new 1-inch hem!

Much better! Plus the length is very flattering for my height!

Faux Fur Vest

It’s winter, which means it’s cold and definitely not my favorite time of year. I was gifted this amazingly warm faux fur vest from neighbor Sandy!

I hoped this would be an quick and easy refash because all it needed was to be sized down a bit…..I was wrong. This faux fur and sweater material on the back proved to be super thick making it very frustrating to work with.

First I pulled the back tighter, pinned and sewed in place. I made sure I went slow and changed my needle to a heavy duty one.

I did the same to the sides. Took it in by a good 2- 21/2 inches.

Again, slow and steady wins the race!

I paired my new warm and cozy vest with some faux leather leggins and my super warm snow boots.

It was my mom’s Birthday and we went out to dinner in a snowstorm to celebrate! Needless to say I had a very warm and cute outfit!

Sweatshirt to Dress

Hello Refashion Co-op. I have been refashioning cozy clothes all of January. This sweatshirt was cozy but it was also very maternity looking on me.

Before and after.

I used this sheer floral shirt to add some length to my sweatshirt. It adds some interest and texture too.

I only needed a piece from the body of the shirt. I cut a 4 inch piece off the shirt. It is going in the middle of my sweatshirt.

I reattached the skirt and tried to make sure the fabric was evenly spread around the new dress. I decided to make pleats. I just folded the fabric down and stitched the dress all together.

The added panel in the middle made this sweatshirt long enough to be a mini dress. It was cozy and soft. I loved it. I added an off-white cami under the dress for warmth and to cover my stomach a little more. Thanks for reading along, for more pictures and details go to my blog, I Can Work With That.

Japanese knot bag from jeans scraps

Every once in a while, you come across a great project you just can't resist. This is one of those projects. When I saw the tutorial for the Japanese knot bag,  I immediately fell in love with the design. It's cute, simple and effective!

I used jeans scraps for this project. Knowing how much water is needed for one pair of jeans (10 000 liters!), I find it very satisfying to reuse old jeans. If you scroll down you can see my twist on the pattern. And if you can't wait to get started yourself, you can find the 'how to' tutorial of the Japanese knot bag on happiestcamper.com. The tutorial contains clear pictures and a detailed explanation. Enjoy!

My interpretation of the pattern
To make the design even more interesting, I didn't stick the pattern pieces together. For one side, I kept the pieces separated lengthwise, and for the other side I kept the pieces across the width apart. The advantage of this was that I could use smaller pieces of fabric.

For the inside lining I used a dark grey, cool looking cotton.

You're welcome to check out other projects and refashions at  vermaakster.blogspot.com. The tutorials are in English and Dutch, and there are lots of pictures for those who don't speak these languages:).

Brocade Bomber

Hello Refashion Co-op. It is cold and snowy now in my area so I decided to do a jacket refashion.

Before and after.

I cut the edges off the whole jacket so I could make a bomber jacket.

I put in a zipper because this brocade jacket only had a small hook and eye closure.

I wanted to add some ribbing for the waistband, cuffs and collar.

Wrist cuffs.

I loved how the jacket turned out. The new look is more fun and casual but the beautiful fabric is still the star of the show. Thanks for reading along, for more pictures and details go to my blog.
