Shopping from my closet for "Light Re-fashions"

While @home, I am grateful to have opportunity to sew. Our thrifts are closed, so I am shopping
for re-fashions from my closet.  Current re-fashioning is mostly "light re-fashions" on items from my closet.
My current focus is my casual summer and back to school wardrobe. I started with the green section of my school wardrobe.

#1 Changes made to dark green flower voile.
  • Worn with dark green tank under
  • Overlarge neckline was shirred with elastic
  • Bright green elastic was on hand. It does not show. May change color later later.
#2 and #3 Changes made to light green shirts:
  • Worn open with Ts under
  • Buttons changed from original to decorative.
  • Collars removed
#4, 5, 7 Changes made from the original men's shirts:
I bought these men's shirts several years ago to wear with T-shirts and khakis.
Shoulders were too wide and sleeves too long.
  • Worn open with Ts under
  • Original buttons were changed from plain original to decorative.
  • Collars were removed
  • Wide shoulders were cut back to fit my narrow shoulders.
  • Sleeves were shortened by removing and re-stitching cuffs
·    #6  Small hand mending was made to dark green turtleneck.
#8 Changes made to green stripe:
  • Worn open with white Ts under
  • Buttons changed to large white
  • Earlier elastic had been added to take in a very loose sleeves.
#9 Changes made to yellow print.
  •  Started as a pull over.
  • Cut open and finished the front.

Upcycled T-Shirt - Men’s Tees to Women’s Baby Doll Top

Hi There Refashioners,

I haven't done too many re-fashions lately. I usually find myself fixing some piece of furniture that one of our dogs or cats have damaged. :-)

But I finally made this simple shirt refashion using some men's t-shirts to make the ruffles. You can view the full tutorial in the video below.

Happy Upcycling,

A Bridesmaid Dress

Hello Refashion Co-op. I refashioned a bridesmaid dress a few months ago. The wedding was scheduled during the shutdown and the bridesmaid never got to wear this pretty dress. Her refashion idea was so clever, I wanted to share it.
And don't worry. The wedding took place on schedule. It was much smaller but the bride and groom were very happy.

The bridesmaid needed this dress shorter in length. So I cut off some length and gave it a new hem.
It was also really low cut. It was too low for this young woman's sense of comfort.

The only matching fabric I had was the 2 1/2 inches I had cut off the bottom. I didn't see anyway to use this narrow strip of fabric. She did though.

She sent me this sketch of the dress with pieces of that fabric layered at an angle to fill in the bodice.

Here is the finished look. I was able to raise the neckline up enough to make it more comfortable and secure to wear.

Dressing Up!

Hello Refashion Co-op. How have you been? I have been home and in my pajamas quite a bit and I wanted to dress up a little. Do I have anywhere to go? No. But I'm going to dress up a little anyway.

This sleeveless silk shirt was so soft and comfortable. I wasn't sure about the long tails it had. They didn't suit someone as short as me. I couldn't just tuck the shirt in and ignore them, they were way to long to tuck in.

I decided to remove the tail in the back and hem the cut edge. I didn't change the front.

I wanted to tie the two front pieces and make the shirt more fun.

The piece I cut off the back was a perfect rectangle. I stitched the cut edge under and it made a little scarf. I tied it to a ponytail holder. It easily made a fancy little ponytail. (Also, it is very hard to take a photo of the back of your own head.)

changing turtleneck into button up sweater

I collect lovely inspirations for sweatrs from some time waiting to find in sh perfect combination of fabric , lenght and color .
I'm still looking because this ''before'' turtleneck I got from my sister .
It's nice combination of cashmere and wood so won't ''bite'' even if it's put on short sleeves top and  it's in something between navy blue and gray color .
Very neutral so can be combine with many colors .
The biggest issue I had with choosing right buttons but finely I decided that simple plastic in  light gray color will be the best option as they elevate this sweater to be more fashionable.

A Trapeze Dress to Wrap Top Refashion

Sheltering-in-place forced me to work through my refashion stash, which is a good thing as it was getting out of control.  I found this fugly dress at the thrift store two years ago.  The dress is hideous, but the fabric is a beautiful yarn dye ikat I couldn't ignore.  I used the top half of New Look 6600 to remake the dress into a wrap top.  After wearing the same baggy t-shirt and pj bottoms for the last 3 days, it felt good to wear nice clothes again.

50s Cocktail Dress

Since we are still not able to go out to the theatre, the hubby and I had planned on watching Andrew Lloyd Weber's production of The Phantom of the Opera, which was available on Youtube! Even though we couldn't go out, we still dressed up!

DSCN1974
I started with this strapless dress, I loved the fullness of the skirt reminds me of a 1950's cocktail dress! And a lace shirt, compliments from my mom!

DSCN1975
I dressed my dress form with the lace tee and the dress ontop. Wanting to use the top of the lace shirt I pinned it in place on the dress.

Once the 2 pieces were stitched together, it was ready for some sparkle!
I harvested these shiny black decorative buttons from a sweater and positioned them onto the dress.

Once I liked the pattern I hand sewed them in place!

Ready for the "theater" :)

Reversible fashion face mask

How many of you out there have become intimately familiar with face masks in the last few months? Where I live, it is required to wear a face covering whenever we're in a public building, so I've been making myself a variety of masks—the goal is to have one to coordinate with every outfit, and maybe a few just for fun!

This one is my favorite. It's reversible, with an owl on one side and a rabbit on the other. Because animals are awesome but still not enough, it's also decorated with subtle 3-D flowers.

I made it from the remains of a quillow (quilt that transforms into a pillow) that got damaged in storage!

Head over to my blog post to see more, including a link to the pattern. And stay safe out there!

changing my man's shirt into summer dress

Summer is almost here ,what makes me extremly happy as I love this time of the year,
from fashion point of view I can get crazy with all kinds of dresses .
Now on my crosshair are pencil dresses, I find them very feminine, perfect for outdoor parties with friends.
For this refashion I used very large men's shirt in lovely baby pink color, prefect color to highlight the tan by the way .  If it comes to fabric it's 100 % egyptian cotton  so it will last and last .

Upcycling of Sofa cushion cover

Back from the time when we where working in our friends upholstery business, I still have several, boxes of material/off-cuts. One of them was a discarded cushion cover in faux suede. Instead of normal handbags, I prefer larger bags to save taking a shopping bag for 2 or 3 items. I worked without a pattern, everything is just approximate. The lining is another small piece of upholstery material printed with African wildlife.

Tarted up car seat covers

I never find car seat covers I like and I do not want to pay the rather exorbitant price for nicer ones. So I buy some cheaper ones and "do" them up. This time I used a piece of linnen like red material which I attached along the middle section of the seat. Makes me happy every time I use the car!

Diy crop top | men's shirt refashion

From my last refashion I still had plenty of material as my navy blue men's shirt was very big.
I must say I love such thrifted goods , 2 nice clothes from  just one ... perfect deal.
I decided to use these leftovers to sew crop top, perfect top for summer days but not only as you can see on photos.

Corona Casual

Hello Refashion Co-op. Does the Corona virus have you home in your pajamas? Yes, me too. I am only wearing "real" clothes occasionally now. So, here is a lounge wear outfit and a casual day outfit.

I found this skirt at a clothes swap long ago when we used to go out of the house on a regular basis.  It fit around the waist but it was way too long on me. It looked like a wrap skirt but it was fake!

I made a much shorter skirt from the top 1/2 of the skirt. It was super easy! I just cut and hemmed.

I had enough at the bottom to make some elastic waist lounge shorts.

In the end I had 2 new pieces that I liked 100% more than the original. It's 2 refashions in 1.
