Pajamas into Scarf and Pockets

For today’s refashion I took an old pair of pajama pants and made a scarf. But that is not all! I also used some the the pajama material to make pockets for a plain sweater I had recently thrifted!
Here it is! A very plain grey cardigan.
Annnd here they are, the old pajama pants.
I used an old pocket that I took off a men’s dress shirt as a template for my new pockets.
I folded over the top of my pockets and stitched that in place.
For my scarf: I trimmed the legs of the pajama pants into 4 rectangles.

I then placed 2 rectangles on top of one another and folded them longwise and sewed that. Then sewed each rectangle pair together to make one long piece of fabric.

I folded the fabric so the ends were together. I sewed them up and made a very long infinity scarf!

Lastly, I pinned the pockets to the front of the cardigan! Stitched them on leaving the tops open, of course!

Here we have it! A new infinity scarf and a cardigan with pockets!

Wall hanging to skirt refashion

I was given a wall hanging by my daughter to refashion.  It was a lightweight loose weave and had a circular pattern with elephants, perfect to make into a circle skirt.

The pattern made the cutting out of the circles so easy but the skirt ended up a little short.  I made as wide a waistband as possible from a more stable fabric.

Even with the smallest hem possible I was still unhappy with the length. After sitting on this problem for a while I came up with the idea of black ribbon. The hem of this skirt was over 4 metres long.

The Denim Do-Over

Hello Refashion Co-op. I made a little change to this denim shirt so I could wear it. I went for short sleeves because I am hoping for warm weather. C'mon Spring!

I used my machine to hem the sleeves and then did some hand sewing to pinch the sleeve into a box pleat.

The little button is just for decoration.

This skirt got some white paint on it. I cut it off and gave it a new hem too.

That was it. These clothes just needed small fixes so I could wear them.

Velvet Dress Refash

Velvet seems to be popular with me this winter. At least I have a use for this beautiful warm fabric! It was been so cold here in Michigan the past few weeks that I haven’t felt comfortable wearing a dress, until this velvet refash!
I love this dress because of its iridescence. At first glace it looks like a black dress, but in the live you can see that it is a combination of teals, purples and yellows. This reminds me of a peacock tail feather!
My 1st order of business was to tighten up the arm holes. I did this by just taking in the sides by 1 inch.
Then I cut a square neckline and pinned this beautiful black lace panel.
I sewed that together and that was that!
Happy Refashioning!!!

Diy cut-out collar shirt 👚

Shirt and necklace in one 👚 , that's a perfect combination for a minimalist , as you have seen from my previous posts I'm not the one but still from time to time I like to wear something sporty and more practical.
I have already quite a collection of  shirts in my wardrobe so I decided to refashion this one in something more fashionable, have you heard of chocker-shirt or cut-out shirt ?
I felt in love 💗 with this trend

The Black and Blue Dress

Hello Refashion Co-op. I love knits and put together a quick dress recently. I used a ladies shirt that fit well and a very big men's t-shirt.

This black shirt was a nice heavy t-shirt. I cut the body off to use as a skirt.

I also cut a small piece out of the neck. Why?

I really wanted to fill in the low cut neckline off the striped shirt. It worked great.

This turned into a super comfortable, no-iron dress.

The 80's Blazer

Hello Refashion Co-op. I found this great blazer at a clothes swap. It seemed very 80's to me because of the over-sized fit and the bright geometric designs.

I cut the body of the jacket of and used it to make a wrap skirt. I have never made one before. I love the idea because the fit would be adjustable. The jacket had a good weight and stiffness to make a great skirt.

I made 2 darts in the back for fit.

I used black bias tape to finish the waist and as a tie closure.

I pulled the skirt over on itself to close it more in the front and moved the original button over so it can help keep the skirt closed.

It was a fun project I should hae made a wrap skirt sooner.

Maxi Skirt to the Max

Hello Refashion Co-op. I love the idea of a maxi skirt but they never fit me. I am too short for them. This light and dark gray maxi skirt had a lot of fabric to play with though.

I used the bottom of the skirt to make a simple shirt. The hem of the skirt made the neckline and sleeves look nicely finished. I cut the waistband off the skirt and used it as a waistband for the new shirt.

The straight hem of the skirt made a quick and easy boat style neckline.

When the shirt was done I had only the hip portion of the skirt left. It was perfect for making a little infinity scarf.

Instead of hemming the cut edge I cut them into fringe. It was a fun and easy way to finish the scarf. I liked how everything turned out and I used almost every inch of that skirt.

Knit fabric dress refashion

I bought a dress at a car boot sale for only £1, there was a lot of useful fabric in the skirt and I wanted to sew more with knit fabrics.  The photo above is not the actual dress of mine but a handy and much better photo of a brown version I found on the internet.

When I got it the dress home and tried it on, the fit and style exceeded expectations so it got a few wears as it was.  This reprieve from the refashion process was only temporary as I eventually decided the neckline was too low and the waist was a little tight.

I created an alternative bodice section from some fabric and a men's tie, using a pattern.

The fit is much better now and I have also worn it out a few times with this new bodice.

Too Small, Too low, Too Big

Hello Refashion Co-op. Some of my refashions are simple and casual for everyday living life. Today's is one of those. This striped shirt was too small for me but I liked the stripes. The red shirt fit well but it was too low cut. The jeans were just a little too baggy and long on me.

I put the striped shirt on my dress form. I put the red shirt on top of the striped shirt. I pinned the shirts together so I could use the striped shirt to fill in the low cut red shirt. I cut off all the excess material. I added the striped sleeves to the red shirt as well.

I ended up with a red shirt that looks like there is a blue shirt underneath, but really it is just the neckline and the sleeves attached. I decided to add the blue waistband to tie it all together. The red shirt fits and the striped shirt made it warmer and less low cut.

The jeans just needed a little taken off the sides and shorter legs.

I know this outfit isn't super exciting but it was perfect for doing casual mom stuff.
