Pirate Love Refash

Here is another refash from the mountain of clothes my mom gave me! The black and white striped tank was hers and the pirate tank was mine! I have been waiting for some inspiration to refash my pirate tank! This is going to be good!
DSCN1931
This tank top was a little too big on me but I hated to take it in at the sides because I would lose the contrasting stripe pattern, which I think was the coolest part of this tank! So, instead, I took it in from the back! You’d never even notice!
DSCN1945
I cut out the graphic from my tank top because I wanted to sew it onto the striped tank. Before that tho, the stitches on the heart had to go, it was weireding me out.
DSCN1946
I grabbed a scrap sleeve in red and cut out a heart.
DSCN1947
I also cut out a slightly smaller heart out of quilt badding, this will make my new heart puffy!
DSCN1949
I used embroidery thread to hand stitch my new puffy red heart over the old graphic hear. Then I stitched the whole graphic onto my newly fitted tank top!

OMG I just LOVE it!

Hood to Hemline

I bought this hoodie in a rush, so excited about the unicorns and low price that I neglected to notice it was missing its waistband.

Fortunately, I never actually use the hoods on my hoodies, so I elected to cut it off and make a waistband from the hood.

I got a decently long strip of fabric from cutting the hood into several pieces, which I sewed to the bottom of the sweatshirt and folded under.

The finished product was just barely long enough to not look silly on me. Phew! I've been really dressing down since I've been in state-mandated quarantine for a month-plus, so it's nice to have another piece of fun loungewear to break up the monotony of days.

Check out my original blog post for more close-up photos of my work, and stay comfy, my friends!

T shirt make over

Hi all Refashionistas!
It has been a long time for me posting on Refashion Co-op. Not that I did no refashioning. Just did not feel the love for posting or something. Now here are my latest projects.
Sorry, no before pics!
Both the pink and turquoise T shirt are store bought for about $7.00 each but looked very blah. Since I am always in need of something in this colour range, I went through my bits and pieces box and found some matching lace/material. The original shape of both was like the turquoise number. I cut a proper armhole and fabricated sleaves according to another shirt I have. The fabric is quite difficult to sew with all the holes!

Then the collar of my husbands most favoured golfing T shirt was a bit worse for wear, but he could not part with it. Some colour full ribbon with native birds did the trick. Happy hubby!

Last not least he almost always needs pockets for his glasses. One was quickly made from scrap I had.

Pop of Pink Lace Refash

I hope everyone’s still staying safe, healthy and busy! One of the first tasks I did while staying home and staying safe was cleaning out my closet. Well, my mom had the same idea which meant all her old clothes came over to me (So much for that extra space in my closet). I was overjoyed at getting my mom’s old clothes. She is where I get my fantastic fashion sense!!!
If you know my mom, you know that her wardrobe contains A LOT of B&W stripes. She LOVES that pattern! So, this B&W striped tank and bright pink lace cami are from her! She loves the stipes and I love pink.

I took in the sides. Pinned and stitched!
DSCN1943
I cut out the front of the lace cami.
DSCN1944
I cut a slit down the middle of the shirt front then pinned the pink lace. Stitched that in place.
DSCN1948
I tried the shirt on only to find it still gapped underneath the armpit. I took it in another tid bit.

Much better! Now for enjoying some nice sunshine!

Easter Dye

Hello Refashion Co-op. I hope you are well. I hate off-white so I decided to freshen up these 2 pieces. I thought I would like them better for Easter if they were a different color.

I used some Rit dye and my washing machine. It never lets me down. Easy-peasy!

This skirt was actually a skort with a terrible nylon under layer. I removed it right away.

I took the sides in a little and I had a simple straight skirt. Perfect for Easter and spring.

Good morning from Texas: I have several over-sized men's shirts. I have lost my link to a company or individual that made men's shirts into jumpers or maybe even aprons. I do not think that they had patterns. But instead were selling their remakes. These had a modern edge or vibe to them. Does anyone have ideas where to look.

Blue for the Red Sox

Hello Refashion Co-op. I won't talk about baseball in this post. (Sports are canceled this year.) I will just show you my baseball themed shirt. This Red Sox shirt was too tight and didn't have any real stretch to it.

I cut off the valuable part, the team name and used it to cover up the corporate logo on this freebie shirt.

Just to jazz it up a little I painted this fabric button to make it look like a baseball.

This was the perfect outfit for taking a walk. But my walk got rained out. I got home all wet and had to change. Oh, well.

Edgy Leather Shoulders

As the weather starts to warm here in Michigan, it's time to start working on some new summer clothes!
DSCN1923
I thrifted this sleeveless shirt because I liked the pattern and it was a nice soft cotton material! However, the white was just too plain.
DSCN1925
I used Rit Dye's Wine box powder dye.
1st: Dissolve the powder dye in 1 cup of HOT water. Fill a washer machine with HOT water (enough so the fabric can flow freely).
2nd: Add 1 cup salt (for cotton fabric), 1 Tablespoon detergent and the dissolved dye to the washer.
3rd: Rinse the fabric in HOT water and add that to the washer. Use an extended cycle.
4th: Once the washer is done filling, be sure to set the water temperature to cold (for the rinse cycle).
BE SURE to clean the washer IMMEDIATELY. HOT water and 1 cup bleach.
Once the washer is done filling, be sure to set the water temperature to cold (for the rinse cycle).

The dyed shirt left the white buttons, which stood out like a sore thumb. I changed all the buttons to black buttons.

img_4112
I turned the shirt inside out and placed it onto my dress form and pinned the sides in to make it more fitted.
Once more added detail...

img_4113
I took these leather pockets off of this jumper. I used the material to sew onto the shoulders.

Easter Dress Refash

Happy Easter everyone! I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy!
Have you seen this meme that is circulating are the internet?
look-ladies-easter
I figured why go all out on an Easter dress when I will just be stuck at home with no one but the dog and the hubby? So, Here is my Easter “dress”…
IMG_4659
IMG_4660
Complete with bunny buttons!
Of course, I’m totally joking! Here is my real Easter Dress…Stuck at home or not!
DSCN1952
I am in love with the flowly ruffle! I am not in love with this dress being stark white! Yikes!
DSCN1953
Since it is springtime and Easter I figured this Petal Pink dye would do nicely.
BE SURE to clean the washer IMMEDIATELY. HOT water and 1 cup bleach.
DSCN1954
Once my dress was done dyeing and drying I placed it on my dress form and cut a straight line down the back and made a v-neckline.
DSCN1955
I removed the belt loops, because I did not need them. This dress did not come with the belt. No big deal!
DSCN1957
My mom gave me this dusty rose lace shirt. I cut the bottom hem off and cut it into different length strips.
DSCN1958
I pinned the strips of fabric across the V of the back.
DSCN1962
The dress dyed very well except for 1 small spot….right in front!
I used one more piece of the dusty rose lace to cover up the darker spot in front. I hand sewed 2 buttons at each side of the lace strip.
DSCN1971
And that is it! Easter dress completed! I got lucky that the length of this dress was perfect!
