Short skirt to colourblock midiskirt

I wanted to make at midi skirt (appearantly all the rage right now). I had a green skirt that felt a bit too short, and had a scrap of the same fabric, but in another colour. Perfect.

I forgot to take a before picture, but it is the green part of the skirt.

Stripy shorts bag - a quick how-to

Take one pair of stripy shorts, some lining fabric of your choice (polka dot is always good!), a little know-how and ta-dah - a new bag is created!

With that colour denim it was bound to look good!  And it was easy peasy - here's how:

Cut off the legs at crotch level parallel to the waistband and then sew them up.

Make two handles with the remainder of the cut-off section and add them to the inside of the waistband.

Then make a lining of a similar shape and add the fastener of your choice.  Turn the top of the lining down and top-stitch in place.

That's it!

Told you it was easy!

The before:

If you are careful not to cut the bottom of the pocket it can still be used :)

The interior with an added pocket for luck:

New Sleeves for a Torn Top

What to do when you get a hole in the elbow of your shirt? Toss it away? Buy a new one? Of course NOT! We are Refashioners!

So from this:

I cut off the sleeves just above the ribbed hole. And with some remnant yellow cotton ribbed knit, it became this:
I quite like the brown/yellow combination. It looks like some designer top I have seen. I hope I can keep wearing this for another few years!

Upcycled Top - Orange Scarf and Tank Refashion

I read somewhere that orange was the new black.  It was probably a few seasons ago since I am never quite up with current fashion trends.  :-)  Still I have always loved orange.  When I bought the knit top I didn't realize that it had a small hole toward the bottom so I never wore it.  Then I stumbled onto this scarf and an idea was born.  Details here.

A few small changes to a summer dress

20 C! (68 F!) i ran for my closet to bring out the summer clothes.
Better make most of it while it lasts (the weather forecast promises snow next week, maybe).

I hadn't worn this new dress yet, and as it turned out, its straps were too long.
And the bodice (is it the right word? I mean to say the upper part of a dress, when the upper and lower parts are made from separate pieces) was not my style.

Before:

I losened the knot, cut of the excess fabric and sewed the remainder together. Then I added a small strip of elastic to the middle.

After, a lot more wearable for me:

A Button Clutch

Made a sweet little clutch this morning and thought I'd share :) I've got a more involved refashion on the way, but that can wait when there is something so quick and easy to be made (who says instant gratification is a bad thing?) :).

I started out with this $1 thrifted woven mat.

I selected a few vintage buttons and grabbed a vintage snap, sewed up the sides of the folded mat and sewed the buttons and snap in place.

And now I've got a little pop of color to complete my spring/summer outfits!

If you want to see a bit more or the button items that inspired this clutch, head on over to my blog. Until next time!

Peace,
Andrea

Little dress into a little purse

_MG_4013One of Kaylee’s favorite dresses was worn out.  This girl plays hard in her dresses!

WP_20131007_002

I looked it over to see if it could/ should be salvaged in some way, and my first thought was to turn it into a skirt.  That would have been easy.   But skirts are not very popular around here for some reason.   Instead, I chopped off the sleeves and the neckline and played around with making a bag.  The top of the dress became the bag lining, and some extra fabric from the skirt became a long strap.   I filled it with some chap stick and hair bows and wrapped it up under the Christmas tree.  She was thrilled to open it, and searched the purse to make sure the little dog charm was still pinned onto the purse.  I have a feeling that doggie charm was the real reason the dress was so well loved.  She wears the purse across her body, messenger bag style, just like I do.

Thanks for looking!

Larkspur Skirt

This one's actually a re-refash! I down-sized this skirt from a size 20 to a 10-ish a couple years ago.

Pleated Skirt Before & After

I loss a little more weight after that, and now the skirt fits even better, BUT I still found myself never wearing it. The length was just all wrong.

Larkspur Skirt - Before

So I cut off about 8 inches from the outer fabric and the lining, and I rehemmed them both. A quick press of the pleats, and we're all set!

Larkspur Skirt - AfterLarkspur Skirt - After

I will definitely be wearing this more often now!

Wrap dress extension

I'm pleased to contribute my first post to the Refashion Co-op!
A friend of mine gave me this great wrap dress, but the skirt barely overlapped. It was a windy day disaster waiting to happen. I cut and sewed in an extra panel to give the skirt extra coverage. Now I can wear it without flashing people!

From summerjacket to kids eating apron.

This is my first post on this blog, and since English is not my first language please bare with me if I make mistakes...

We parent's really know the situation well... during dinnertime! Kids splash the food all over their clothes and mommy needs to wash again!
We used to have apron's or bibs from IKEA. But my daughter is 6 years old now and she doesn't fit in them anymore. But sometimes you want to protect the clothes from stains rather than washing the stains out of the clothes. Which sometimes won't work...

I came up with a solution! I had bought myself a new summerjacket because my old one had some holes and was to wide for me. (I could have fixed that jacket for me but I didn't) Now I had the old jacket to turn it into a kids eating apron.

This is me wearing the jacket and this is the apron.

I've cut the collar and made a seam.
I made the sleeves shorter and crated a tunnel with elastic.
The front side of the jacket became the back of the apron. I've cut the zipper and the button's but left the top button to close the apron.
Since the back of the jacket was to wide for my daughter I made it smaller and cut the waist.

My daughter shows the apron... near bedtime ;)

Please read more on my own blog Made by ME. I write in Dutch, but mostly the pictures speak for themselves. And you can always use chrome translate =D
And this is the original post.

A dress like a skirt

At first, I had this classical, sexy, feminine dress. Most of you wonder why I needed to refashion. It fitted me perfectly except the deep neckline was so deep. I did not feel comfortable at all wearing it. The day I bought it, I already knew that I was going to change that collar:

So I chopped it without sorrow. Simple and curved hand-free cut, a fancy facing for the finishing and a new dress is born. More like a skirt with suspenders than a dress, its look is more a street cool one than a business chic. I really increase the chances to wear it now. The intermediary steps are shown here

White jeans plus a sad sack

I took a pair of big white jeans and converted it to a bodice using a simplicity pattern. My original plan went out the door so I had to rethink everything. I decided to use the bottom half of another sad sack dress I found which I didn't care for the bodice. Or even the back as it was all button down the back. Not conducive to wearing. So I added the two together to get a new dress. Which now I love!

More on this refashion here. I have 31 refashions done this year! Almost 1/3 to my goal of 99! Yeah!

Cheers,
Lauren

Shirt dress refashion for little girl

Hello all,

It is about refashion for my little girl again. This time I started with my own button up shirt (size S).

Before : The girl surely doesn't fit in mommy's shirt
After re-sized the shirt, I added eyelet laces at both sides to created the wings. Then curved up the hem. I did the casting at collar for ribbon. Here's the result:

After : The girlie button up shirt.
Now she can flyyyyy.

Love,

Penya

Curtain skirt

Here's a cute skirt I made from a vintage curtain. I just loved the fun print and felt it needed to see the light of day. I cut the a line shape from another skirt I had.

No-Sew Refashioned Vest

This dress was just odd. From the waist up, it's not that bad, but that weird circle skirt in lieu of faux shirt tails? I just don't get it!
