Refashion: Make your own Socks

Einen schönen Sonntag wünsche ich Euch allen!

I had some creative days and was sewing a lot. So finally I decided to sew my own socks :)

I used an old shirt which I tried to refashioned first to a new shirt. But I didn't liked it so it became something totally different.

Do you like it? Did you ever sew socks?

REFASHION: Side seam practice

While rummaging through my refashion stashes, I discovered three T-shirts that weren't quite ready for my T-shirt quilt bin. Unfortunately, the three tees were a bit too small for me, but with a little tampering, the tees fit me again! In a previous post, I tried several methods to enlarge a shirt and found a simple process that I liked.

With the brown Holt International tee, I cut two strips from a yellow refashioned skirt that I never wore and simply inserted them into the side seam. The process was simple because I used the skirt's hem (I love no-hem refashions) and aligned it with the shirt's hem. I like the "sporty" look of the yellow strips and the strips match the yellow font.

In my stash, I had an old white lace tank in need of repair, but I felt the material would be better used as strips for the Dunder Mifflin T-shirt and an old family T-shirt (dark blue with white writing). For the Dunder Mifflin shirt, I used the non-lace side of the tank, matched the tank and shirt hems, and sewed the white strips into the open side seams.

Love,

upcycle a scarf to a poncho/shrug/cardi/shawl

I had crocheted poncho with buttons for my sister some months back and wish I had it myself all summer as it was rather cold in Ireland.  When I was unpacking some winter clothes, I decided to turn a long scarf I had into something similar by cutting it a bit shorter, and placing some buttons at each end and sewing buttonholes.  It worked out a lot better than I expected and already a wardrobe staple.

If its buttoned one side only, its a poncho.  If these buttons are to the front, you can button the back and it becomes a ' cardigan'.  If each end is buttoned it becomes a shrug.  and if unbuttoned, its back to a shawl.

I have photos belows of the poncho and shrug, and some more at the blog www.theupsew.com

Detroit Tigers TShirt to Skirt

I started my work week with a bang! The office I work at got tickets to the 2nd to last home baseball game for the Detroit Tigers! Wait...it gets even better....we got VIP suite tickets!!!
I originally wanted to turn this...
into a cute dress, but it got complicated. I had to switch my plans into making a skirt using the bottom half of this shirt.

Sewing the casing for the elastic waistband.

I threaded the elastic through and stitched up the hole!
Now this would be way to short as is so luckily JoAnn Fabrics has Tigers fabric on sale!
I cut an 8 inch piece that I folded over to make a nice bottom for my skirt.

Pinned the fabric and sewed it to my skirt.

Then I finished it off with some navy bias tape!

I cut out 3 circles from the scraps to make a decorative flover. I cut the edges into flower petals and sewed it all together with a button!

Then I hot glued it to a jelwery pin.

I was lucky enough that my roomie gave me this awesome Tigers tank top to wear with my new skirt!!! I had to pair my new outfit with some leggins and an orange sweater because the weather was supposed to get down in the low 50s, pretty cold to watch a baseball game.

Round 1 of food!

Round 2: desert! Yumm!!

We played the White Sox and lost 3 to 2, but it was still an exciting game!

We had a good view of the fountain sponsored by Chevrolet that would spout off everytime the music played!

I had such a great night cheering on our Tigers in my new Tigers outfit!!! Can't wait until next season to wear it again!
