The Beef Burgundy Dress

Hello Refashion Co-op. Do you get hand-me-downs from family? I got one from my own daughter. She gave me this soft cozy sweatshirt dress.

This dress fit her great. Me? No. I wanted it to fit well or it would just be a shapeless baggy sweatshirt dress. I made the cowl neck a little smaller in the back. I also made the skirt smaller too. I had to make it shorter as well. (#shortgirlproblems)

I liked the new fit. It wasn't tight, it just fit better.

The dark burgundy color inspired me to try and cook Beef Burgundy. I got the beef and the wine... but then I had no cork screw. (Cooking isn't my thing.) You can see more details about this project and my cooking at I Can Work With That.

Pretty Green Dress Unhalterneck'ed

I loved the design, the fit, and the colour of this dress, and it was even my size.
But it had a tight halterneck-like neckline. I hate when something is tight around my neck.

I cut away the strap in the front and hemmed the edges.

In the back I also cut the strap off (I forgot to take a before photo of the back, but it was like the front). I found a pretty piece of ribbon which I buttoned to the existing buttons. It can be replaced as desired.

Much more comfortable around the neck. Now all I need is a party! :-)

Super Hero Week; Robin

Hello Refashion Co-op. I really wanted to focus on something fun and casual and a superhero shirt seemed like both.

I had these two items waiting to be worn. The Robin nightshirt was too long and the cropped sweater was just not being worn. I didn't like the fit across the chest. But together, they could be something more.

I put the black sweater on my dress form and then I put the Robin night shirt on top. I used a lot of pins to secure them together around the armholes. I didn't want them to shift around at all when I was sewing them together.

I stitched them together and cut away the body of the sweater. I liked the sheer mesh, it looked like what a superhero would wear. I didn't want it to be blocked by the black sweater.

I cut the nightshirt to the length I wanted and gave it a new hem.

This was fun to make and fun to wear.

Tunics for a Friend

I have an adorable young friend who inherited a bunch of XL shirts from her father.  She asked for my help in refashioning some of them before winter break was over and she heads back to school to finish the last few busy months of her dental hygiene program.

We only finished two that day, so the rest will have to wait for after graduation!

The first one was a combination of two shirts.  The solid gray one had a stain on the pocket, so we just used the lower half and attached it to the top half of a super soft plaid cotton.

The next top was from a black on black striped shirt.

Dressember 2018; Dress 8

Hello Refashion Co-op. This is the last dress in my Dressember series. I wanted to highlight their work to fight human trafficking.
This dress was just too long on me. It had a black lining that ended at knee length and the lace continued to floor length. Actually, it continued to drag on the floor because I am pretty short. (Really short. Like super-short.)

I had a lot of trouble photographing this dress. Here is a close up of the material. It was really pretty.

I decided to cut the dress off where the lining ended. I didn't hem it though. I had an idea.

I decided to use that extra lace to make a ruffle along the bottom of the dress.

I attached the ruffle so it would be just below the lining. The sheer ruffle is a nice balance to the sheer sleeves.

And Happy New Year to all of you!
