The Maxi Skirt Dress

Hello Refashion Co-op. It is getting warmer and that means easy summer dresses. I used this very long maxi-skirt to make a quick dress. The skirt was very long on me so I had a lot of fabric to work with.

I cut the hem at the bottom of the dress off. I made sure to keep the stitching intact. I made a new hem on the dress so it was shorter.

I used it to make straps and the leftover piece to make a waist tie. It was quick and easy and oh-so-comfortable.

Formal Dress

The Formal Dress

I needed a formal dress for a fancy event and decided, why not make it myself from re-purposed articles of clothing.

The before items:

A shirt and a plain black cotton dress.

I used the top of the shirt, and the bottom of the dress and the result was perfect. : )

The Boring Brown Shirt

Hello Refashion Co-op. I try to save the fabric scraps from refashions but sometimes it takes me quite a while to get back to them. It has been over 2 years since I used this brown silk.

That is my dog, he didn't help at all.

 

It started as a plain brown dress. The silk material was very nice but the dress was pretty boring.

The top of the dress was basically a tank top. It just needed to be finished at the bottom. 

I didn't want to turn the bottom edge under and stitch it down because I thought it would make the shirt too cropped for me. I used some wide silk bias tape that I had on hand. I thought a different color would make it a little more interesting and it would help with the length of the shirt.

The top turned out well. The length was perfect. The silk will be very comfortable in the summer when it gets hot and humid outside.

Jeans to skirt refashion

Fellow refashioners, how do you decide which project to start next?

Normally my decision process is quite random and factors include ideas I have had about a particular item, wishing to refashion an item I have been given by friends or family, or I've made a lot of tops best make a skirt next, or wanting to try a particular technique / pattern.

I have decided this random method needs some order.  My stash had built up 6 pairs of jeans and it was clear I was accumulating them faster than the refashion process was using them, hence a denim skirt was the order of the day.

I used a commercial pattern to make this A line skirt with contrast pockets and a yolk type waistband.

It was constructed of several pieces which made it suitable for making from various jean legs, using up 2 pairs.

I am so pleased with this skirt, its very comfy and the denim has 2% elastane.

The Ribbon Candy Shirt

Hello Refashion Co-op. Button down shirts are fun to refashion. I got this fun striped shirt from my mom. (Thanks Mom!) It made me think of old fashioned ribbon candy.

I re-sized it and made it sleeveless. I cut the sleeves up to make a belt. 

I liked the belt because it cinched in the waist and the stripes are just fun.

I made the shirt a little shorter to go with this pencil skirt.

I was ready for spring but it was still freezing outside. When the weather turns warm, I will be ready.
