The Shiny Gold One

Hello Refashion Co-op. I liked these 2 pieces of clothing but they didn't fit me.

I gave the dress a big cut in the middle. The skirt was the best part anyway and the top was the part that did not fit.

This shirt was a little big and the armholes were so low that I couldn't wear it. I made new side seams and made sure the armholes were smaller and higher.

I like how everything turned out, and added a sweater because it was chilly.

Bleach Dye Maxi Dress

I fell in love with this coral maxi dress at the thrift store. I didn't really have a need for it and being short I don't think maxi dresses are very flattering. However, I always feel so elegant in maxi dresses. So, for this one I'm going by how I feel in this dress and not really how it looks.


For this I decided to once again try a bleach dye. The last time I tried bleach on a light fabric, I didn't work. I definitely had my fingers crossed for this project!


First, the prep: Use rubber gloves! Put a tarp or plastic garbage bag down before starting your project!
Since I am usually very messy, I put down a tarp!
I filled a bucket with about 2 inches of bleach and just a tiny amount of water.
I dipped the bottom of my dress into the bucket and let that sit for 10 minutes.



After sitting for 10 minutes in the bucket I soaked a rag in bleach and dabbed it about 1/2 up the dress. Then I dipped my gloved hand in the bleach and flicked bleach on the dress.
Once the bleach sat for a total of 20 minutes I put it into the washer on a rinse cycle. Rinse with cold water. Then I washed it on a normal cycle. I did wash it by itself at this step.
I couldn't believe this bleach project worked out, especially because my first bleach project was a major fail.

The Black Beaded Skirt?

Hello Refashion Co-op. I found a skirt so lovely I decided to make it a dress. As a skirt it was just a little too big and long. I could have fixed the big but if I hemmed the length I would have ruined the beading.

I added some straps made of grosgrain ribbon. So far, so good.

I took in the sides of the skirt so it fit a little better. I took in a little more than this.

I tuned the back zipper into a deep V and added a ribbon sash at the waist to give the dress some shape. I also closed up the slit at the bottom hem. It was too high now that this was a dress.

I made some wrong turns along the way but I was really happy with the end result. And no beads were harmed in this refashion. For more pictures and details go to I Can Work With That.

Tie Dye Maxi Skirt

Hi there! Remember me?! It's been awhile since my last post but I haven't forgotten about you my dearest readers! I have been busy creating, but I haven't been busy posting.
At the end of July our friend threw a Harry Potter themed birthday party for her boyfriend (also our friend) and we hosted this party at our house. Since this was a Harry Potter party, obviously I needed a outfit to fit the theme.

I already had a Harry Potter shirt that would be perfect for the hot weather, but I did not have a bottom to go with it.



I found this dress? In the dress section of my thrift store. I really was not sure if this was an actual dress or skirt but I wanted it to be a skirt, so a skirt it shall be! The shirt I was planning on wearing was a dark blue like this skirt.

My shirt was also a blue and black tie dye and I wanted to make the skirt match.
After I got done tying up the skirt with rubber bands in preparation for the tie dye process it basically looking like a blue octopus.

I actually used my washer machine dye process for this, instead of squirting the dye onto the fabric and waiting like the normal tie dye process. I think it worked out very well, probably because I was only using 1 color to dye.


This was the end result!


Then I just needed to make the skirt fit like a skirt. I took in a little from one side. The other side of the skirt actually had a zipper, so I was able to make it pretty tight. The way the skirt fit made it a high waist skirt, which was very cool!


The top and bottom together! I was super happy with the way this turned out! I also like how the skirt had a little train at the back, made me feel very elegant!
