Before I move onto the inner tube from the fork lift truck, here are a couple of experiments on the mannequin with bicycle inner tubes. 1st 2 images show a possible shoulder piece with bits of tube glued and shaped.

The next images below shows the strips of inner tube weaved onto the body.

Below is the inner tube from fork lift in my bath getting washed.

There are interesting markings on each piece, making each one individual.

Holes were punched again creating surface design. More holes were punched and eyelets attached so this piece can now be worn as a top.

Seen in the above image is also the beginnings of a skirt. I now had to figure out how it would be fastened. I purchased a few types of sturdy buckle, and then settled on what i thought to be the best, the kilt buckle, seen below.

The next image demonstrates how I used inner tube rubber to attach the buckle with rivets. Unfortunately the image is upside down, i could not rotate for some reason, but it still shows the inner tube rubber attached with rivets on right hand side of picture and on the left is the kilt strap attached with rivets.

The fork lift inner tube outfit is complete. I am delighted to  nest show you fashion photography shoots worn in full glory.

Recycled, inner tube rubber.

Part 2 of my "Money for old rubber" collection.

Shown above is my favourite necklace to date. In fact this is 2 necklaces one on top of the other. The top one is strips strung up in such a way to create interesting curly shapes. The necklace underneath is slim strips of different lengths placed and strung with clasp fastening (still perfecting this). 

I am lucky enough to have a partner whos family in Cleator Moor near Whitehaven, who own a bicycle repair shop Ainfield Cycles. They have kindly been keeping and posting all the way to Aberdeen the inner tubes for me to reuse and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them. I have many more inner tubes to get through and am excited about what I will come up with next.

This image shows more of an interior take on reusing the inner tube. Holes were punched using hole punch and hammer, then wrapped around a UV light. I am yet to discover a way of securing the tube to the light in a professional way.

Money For Old Rubber, Part 1

Recycled inner tube rubber.

This is my first ever blog post and what better place to start than Refashion co-op. One of my passions is recycling, up cycling and refashioning. I am a recent fashion and textiles graduate and it is my pleasure to share with you my "money for old rubber" project. You may be wandering what on earth is the above image. This is where I began after collecting many shapes and sizes of used inner tubes from bicycles and mini motor bikes. Starting by cutting them all into strips, I began to realise that the very nature of these pieces was for it to curve, some were flatter than others and so I continued to separate into piles of similar shaped ones.

I continued to cut in different ways, some straight across some cutting all the way up creating thin long strips, all of which began creating interesting shapes. The next image shows how I strung these pieces up to hang at my exhibition at university.

I do not want to give away everything all at once and I hope I have encaptured enough interest for you to follow this blog to find out what I did next. Below is one last picture for today just to give you a taste of what is to come and if I do say so myself it gets much better. Stay tuned and thank you for reading!!!
