Layered Dress Refashion

Hello Refashioners!

This latest refashion I finished was made from this double layered rayon dress I found at the thrift store a few months back:

I liked the deep maroon color and the softness of the rayon fabric, and the double layers meant it was a lot of usable fabric. This refashion only used some of the under layer of the dress, so I still have more to make another coordinating piece.

I used a pattern for a straight skirt to determine where to cut the fabric and take in the side seams of the under layer to transform it into a new skirt:

The rayon fabric means this skirt is very comfy. I used an invisible zipper and bias tape to finish the skirt.

You can see more about it here on my blog.

T-shirts to Tie Dye Coordinates

Hey everyone! This time my refashion was created using two large men's t-shirts.

I found these shirts at the thrift store for $2 each. They each had velcro sewn into one of the shoulder seams.

I decided these would be perfect to transform into a new crop top and skirt set. Using a tank top pattern I had to trace out the shape, I used one of the shirts to create a top:

With the other shirt, I created a skirt:

For more detail on how I made these, check out this post on my blog.

The sewing wasn't the end of this refashion, though. These pieces had some dyeing in store for them. The final result:

You can read more about how I dyed this and other garments in my tie dye post here on my blog.

Happy refashioning, and stay quirky!

New Contributor with Jeans and T-shirt Festival Style Refashion

Hello Refashion Co-op! I'm Kristen and I am so excited to join you all as a new contributor here. I first got interested in refashioning a few years ago when I was looking at some of the awesome blogs out there. I started sewing and refashioning some things over a year ago and now am a technical apparel design student. I recently started my blog, Quirk Your Closet to share my refashions and other sewing and clothing related content.

My most recent refashion involved transforming a t-shirt I had and a pair of thrift store jeans.

I wasn't a fan of the cut of this t-shirt neckline and where it was hitting at the bottom, so it was in for a dramatic festival style make-over, turning it into a fringed crop top. For the jeans, they were destined to become some distressed cutoff shorts. This was a lot of fun to take a sandpaper block to these jeans to get the distressed look. The jeans were a no sew refashion, making them a great project for anyone regardless of if they can sew or not.

The final look is a festival ready style that is quite a change from where the outfit started.

For a more in-depth look at how I did this refashion, you can check out the post about it on my blog.

Happy refashioning!
