High Low Dress Refashion

Someday I'll organize my time better and have time for refashioning more often! Until then, I have to settle for projects that take a LONG time to finish (but that turn out great!)

I got a huge box of clothing from a swap/online thrift shopping project. The box was mostly filled with clothing that's way bigger than what I wear, so I wasn't sure what to do with some of it. I had my eye on the material of this sleeveless dress (below) but wasn't sure if I wanted to do a maxi dress, a maxi skirt, a short skirt, etc.

I decided on a high-low hem for my dress (inspired by Pinterest, of course.)

Pocket tshirt to ruffle tank top

I am a sucker for ruffles, not only because they are cute, sassy and feminine but they can cover up boo-boos, tears and fabric problems with refashioned clothes!

This refashion started as a regular polo shirt (Ralph Lauren!) Sort of like this one.

I was a big fan of the soft material and gray/olive color. It was originally meant for a pencil skirt, but because I already had one similar, I decided to do a tank top. The only problem? When I cut the tank top out, the pocket of the shirt was right there on the front. Womp womp. The ruffles were sort of a means to an end, but I loved the way it turned out:

For instructions on how I pinned the ruffles and more images I drew on because I'm super classy like that, visit my pocket tshirt to ruffle tank top tutorial over on It's Blogworthy. Happy sewing, ladies!

DIY Faux Pearl Necklace Tutorial

I have another refashion coming up next week, but this is one of my favorite accessory DIY I've done since I started refashioning. I love jewelry and accessories -- they can really pull together an outfit and make you looked polished.  Here is a super-simple project that can add some style and sophistication to your outfit for next to nothing and with no jewelry making experience!

If you're a Mardi Gras person, you might have lots of old plastic beads laying around...and what on earth are you going to do with them? I have always just thrown them away. My husband was a high school basketball coach and I had tons of strings of beads from games. Here's how I started this project:

You need two strings of beads, spray paint, jump rings, needle nosed pliers, a chain, and a glue gun.

And here's how it ended up:

Try your hand at this wearable art. It's easy enough to make a whole slew of them in every color! Visit It's Blogworthy for the full instructions.

Hawaiian Maxidress Tutorial

Holiday blues set in yet? Wishing for warmer weather? Refashion a Hawaiian vacation for a little wintertime wishful thinking!

This tutorial I did back in the summer and was one of my first major refashioning projects. I got the Hawaiian dress from a thrift store for $1 and it was HUGE on me. I was able to snip quite a bit off to make some cute ruffles and a sash! It was a first for both those things.

This would be a great project to prepare for the spring or summer. For details, check out my Hawaiian maxidress tutorial on It's Blogworthy.

Polo to cardigan refashion

I'm a self-proclaimed cardigan addict -- in fact, search #CardiAddict on Instagram and there is me, showing off my various cardigans on the daily.

I put together this polo to cardigan refashion when I first started refashioning and it's still one of my favorites.

I started with this:

And turned it into this!

It was so easy that I think even the most beginning sewer out there could pull it together! Check out my tutorial and other cardigans I created on the polo to cardigan refashion on It's Blogworthy!

DIY Twisted Pearl Necklace

I'm mostly a clothing refashion kind of girl, but sometimes I like adding more jewelry to my extensive collection. While I love the "fashion" jewelry (i.e. costume jewelry), I draw the line at plastic beads.

You know those kinds of plastic beads; the ones you wear at high school football games or from a wild Mardi Gras night (no judging here.) They are cheap and have tacky colors, but I found a way to turn them into something lovely for fall.

Here are my supplies:

And here is what I came up with.

It turned out even nicer than I expected, and now that I can do it, I'm planning on making a ton of them in different colors. Check out my instructional how-to and make some pretties for fall!

Old Lady dress refashion

Hi everyone! I'm Amanda from It's Blogworthy, and I'm a refashion addict. I''m so excited to be a part of the Refashion Co-Op!

I got my first sewing machine in May and began falling in love with creating my own clothes for next to nothing. I love that I can get something new for my closet and bring life into old clothes.

One of my favorite refashions to date has been my "old lady" dress refashion.

Ain't she a beaut, Clark?

I found this dress at a thrift shop for a couple of bucks and loved the material, but the style wasn't cutting it for me. I may be in my 30s, but I'm not a 60 year old church lady, ya know? So I trimmed, hemmed and ruffled and came up with my cute "Young person" dress.

That's more like it! If you want to get my step-by-step plan for making an old lady dress new again, check out my tutorial on the blog!
