Replacing a Button Stand with a Softer Neckline

I removed the button stand of this shirt and sewed a seam right up the centre front. The shirt is habotai silk and is very comfortable to wear. I drew the shape of the neckline onto the shirt while on the mannequin.
Using a strip of silk from a scarf of the same colour, I added the strip along the neckline to try and give a softer finish. www.sewthisis.com

Cardigan to Scarf

I don't have a before picture but this was made from a cardigan I unravelled. It's a beautiful soft wool and ideal for neckwear.

I cast on 84 stitches and using circular needles knitted about seven rows of plain and the four rows of pearl, repeated this until I had a depth measuring 14cm. I cast off and had new soft cosy neckwear.

I made this blouse a few years ago. I really liked the fabric but never liked the collar. I regretted not making a dress or a tunic. I had very little of this fabric left over, just a single strip about 30cm in width just about enough to add a piece to the end but it wouldn't look right.

I spotted this skirt in the January sales for €1 at a guess I thought it might match the color of my blouse and it did!

I cut off the button stand and made a centre seam down the front. I did quite a bit of adjusting with the shoulder seams to get them to sit right. using the fabric for the skirt I made bias binding for the neckline.
I also added shoulder pads.

I added the strip of leftover blouse fabric to the end. After deciding what length I would like I added a strip of skirt fabric and ended up with a new dress!

Restyled Pattern

This is a Jesire jacket that I have. I really like the collar detail.
Using a Kwik Sew jacket pattern as a basic starting point, I drafted the collar of my jacket,
onto the paper pattern. I also added lining using the bagging method.

I used a fine cord fabric which was quite difficult to work with.
It took several attempts to get the collar sitting correctly as the fabric was quite bulky.
I think I would use a lighter fabric on my next attempt.

Refashioned Top

This was an oversized silk top.

I shirred the centre of the top to try and make it more interesting.
I then added a black jersey to the sleeves from a plain black t-shirt. I also created a waistband with the jersey.

The end result was a more fitted style top. I might undo the shirring I am not too sure it works.

Jumper to Scarf

Winter time for me brings on an urge to knit. I didn't have any wool so I unravelled a jumper I didn't wear anymore. I knitted a basic scarf 80 stitches in width in the moss stitch. To give a more girlie look I attempted crochet circles. This was a bit of a learning curve as I haven't done crochet before but after a couple of tutorials I was hooked.

Cardigan & Jumper Combination

Unfortunately, I don't have a before photo. This is a combination of a horizontal striped jumper and a plain grey cardigan.
I cut the back and front of the jumper into the shape of sleeves. I attached some extra pieces to the end of the sleeves to create cuffs and did a double row of crochet to finish the edges.
I removed the grey sleeves of the cardigan and sewed on the newly made striped ones.
To finish off I sewed the rib from the jumper to the bottom of the cardigan

Solution to a low cut Dress

I really liked the colours in this dress, but always felt it was a bit low cut when I had it on. My solution came from a blouse that was a bit on the tight side.

I removed the black embellishment from the front of the blouse, carefully pinned it in place on my low cut dress and sewed on. The result is now I can wear my dress without worrying about the neckline.

Dress to Top

I must have worn this dress to death when I was able to fit into it!. It is a navy silk with embroidered flower and leaf detail, I couldn't part with it so I made it into a cowl top.
The sleeves were a bit of guess work as I had very little fabric. I did a rolled hem on my overlocker on several pieces and then sewed them to the top of the shoulder. My blog is www.sewthisis.com

Tunic to Dress

I really liked the fabric in this very large tunic which was about five sizes too big for me. I took some time altering the neckline to get it to sit right. I kept the oversized sleeves and matched it with the obi belt I made previously.

Having never felted before I decided to experiment with an an old cardigan that just about had it's day. Using old buttons to create texture and a hot machine wash, this scarf is the end result. More on my blog

Restyled Top

I am delighted to be invited to post here. My name is Noirin and I have been a follower of Refashion Co-op since it began.

I never really wore this top, so I thought I would change the neckline. I pinned the top to my mannequin to judge how much to cut off the top. Using the band from the neck I created shoulder straps.

Using my favourite tool at the moment Bias binding maker. Instructions on how to use here.

If you don't have one here is another great way to make your own bias binding.

I used strips of lining in a complementary colour for my bias binding and sewed it to the raw edges of my top.

I sewed on the shoulder straps and finished off by adding buttons to create a new neckline. My blog is http://www.sewthisis.com/
