I can't sew but I can dye

It's a lovely lace dress with an under dress for modesty.

It's an awful unflattering yellow, so I have never worn it. Makes me look like a zombie.

Out came the dye, I forgot to wear gloves of course...(I look like The Hulk now)

It's so much prettier and more importantly it's more wearable!

I am not a very good sewer, but I can dye well. To find out more about me and my 365 Days Without Shopping please drop by my blog at Tasmanian Minimalist.

I would love to see you there.

The Fancy Bag I Got Rid Of

Look at this ugly bag- it needed something. I have never used it, see you can still see the tags at the top. Perhaps beautifying it would make me use it. Either that or I would give it away.

It didn't take much. Like an artistic madwoman I sought out my collection of nail varnishes and begun slinging at it, to reveal....

It certainly looked much better, and the varnish dried on it really hard and solidly...stylish eh?

Unfortunately I still didn't like it and decided to give it away, see TASMANIAN MINIMALIST to see just how much I am giving away....I know someone somewhere will love this bag, but it just isn't me!

As for the upcycling element though, I think it worked rather nicely!

I couldn't not have this wonderful dress

I don't know what it is about old granny dresses, but they do seem to come in the nicest of fabricS. All I am doing with this item is removing the shoulder pads, the sleeves (then hemming) and shortening the length. You can't see on the picture, but at the waist is a lovely tie detail. I love it when a few small tweaks, make a whole lot of difference. I will pair it with a big brown leather belt at times, when I don't want to use the tie.

Our Lady Of Guadelupe Denim Jacket

So there's nothing fancy or complex about this refashion. The denim jacket began life with sleeves,I gave them the big chop, then dusted red dye onto certain edges of the jacket for a bit of variety, and finished with a cut out from an old, over sized and crappy t-shirt.

I wasn't even that careful with my sewing edges as for me, with this sort of item, the point it that it is, how shall we say, organic. I didn't want it too neat, especially as my finishing touch will be an appointment with a cheese grater. You can never have too much texture!

Hope you like it,it was a fun, ten minute minute Sunday morning play.

I have so many things in my closet I want to refashion and do things to, inspiration seems to be everywhere and I want to grab that whilst I can.

What do you do for creativity and arty outlets. I don't claim to be good, but I do have fun.

PS Please visit my blog at  tasmanianminimalist.blogspot.com and for other forthcoming refashions.

Here you will be able to see my journalling my year without buying clothing (painful though it will be). All support generously received.

Tahitian Sunrise

I was going to throw this frock out as it was an insipid unflattering yellow.

I thought I would give it one last chance to see if it could be fiddled with in order to make it nice.

Well what a difference a dip-dye makes...rose red ( more like blood red ) and there you have it- a perfect summer creation.

What A Difference A Dye Makes

Ugleeeeeeeeeeeee Colour

Beautiful Embroidery

New Colour

Contrasting Detail
I am still on a dying spree and recently found this ugly skin coloured Karen Millen (still with tags on) jacket in my closet.

A little bright orange dye and one pointless skin coloured unworn jacket becomes " out there ". I totally adore how the embroidery and detail really zaps your eyes. I would have gone mad for this jacket as it is now had I seen it on the rail of a store...but I got it for free ( well sort-of )
