Greetings fellow refashionistas. I am so happy to be back on Refashion Coop. This spring I scoured thrift stores for knit t-shirts so that I could make one of a kind skirts, dresses, and shirts for craft shows, gifts, and of course myself. I love making upcycled clothing and clothes from new fabric too (prefer the upcycling). I just think it is so cool to take something destined for the trash and turn it into something beautiful, hip, funky, functional or whatever vibe you are trying to achieve.
This skirt was made using the LilyGiggle pattern Ring of Ruffles. There is an underskirt that the ruffled fabric is attached to. I made this skirt a few times and each time I give it a different detail (flower with button -as seen here, rolled hem finish, ending the ruffles 3/4 of the way down, tighter or looser gathers, etc.) This skirt is very straight forward. I needed the pattern mostly for the various sizing and not so much for the directions. It reminds me of hibiscus flowers and Hawaii. This skirt was given to the granddaughter of my mother's friend and she just loves it. I wish I could get a pic of her in it. Check out the full pattern collection, the designer Beth has some really cute stuff and she encourages "breathing new life into unwanted fabrics..."

Kid Refashion - Undershirt Improvement
At times, my daughter needs to slide a tank top under her t-shirts or sundresses so she can be properly covered. She has a white tank that is really a undershirt that is often used to to fill the gap. It looked a little too plain so I thought I would add a little something to it.
I grabbed some tulle, a button, and a little crochet circle (I crocheted a bunch of these during the kids soccer practice). I also had a yo-yo that was already made when I was learning to make yo-yos. I quickly stitched the items to the neckline. It's simple and of course you could jazz it up a even more but I think it looks better than before.

Yes, much better!
It looks great under her striped tank and with her tulle skirt.

Denim Tote Bag
I made a tote bag from a pair of old jeans a while back (original post here), but I felt it was missing a little something something.
I finally got around to added that little something. I used some flowers from an old ripped dress of my daughters and a few buttons from my stash. I think I will use the dress to line another one of these bags in the future.
This became a gift for my daughter's friend. I added a journal and writing utensils and off it went.

Kids Refashion - Striped top to skirt
This striped top was given to us by a neighbor. For some reason I thought this shirt would make
the cutest little skirt and I was right. This was a super easy and oh so fast refashion for my daughter.
I love the paring of this t-shirt with the striped skirt.
Peace! More details on my blog.

MODKID Yoga Skirt from Thrifted T-shirts
With spring -- well more like summer in the air I thought my daughter needed a new skirt. I needed a quick project and right now I am into using previously loved materials. I've always wanted to try the MODKID Yoga Skirt tutorial (it has been on my to-do list since 2010) so I thought I'd give it a whirl.

Sweater Wrist Cuff
This year I am trying very hard to make as many gifts as possible. I know I can't create something for everyone but I think with a little creativity I can share the gift of handmade with many. Having two kids in grade school means lots of parties and lots of gifts. This gift was for one of my daughter's friends. I made this wrist cuff from the cuff of a thrifted wool sweater. I lined the inside of the cuff with a knit fabric to eliminate the itch factor. The letter that looks like a "W" in this shot is actually a "M" for Madeleine, the recipient's name and is made from a thrifted cashmere sweater. I used embroidery thread to hand stitch the "M". Madeleine has her own style so this gift is fitting to her personality. Super quick and super fun! Next time I think I'll add some funky buttons.

Jeans Pants Leg to Cute Tote
Ten minutes before picking up the little ones from school I thought to myself I have nothing to wear. I had been in workout gear when I dropped them off at school since I hit the gym in the morning but now that I was all showered and ready to go I needed something to wear. I cut off a pair of my favorite jeans that were just too holey to wear as pants in public and voila fun cut-offs. The pants legs sat around for a few months until I could figure out what to do with them. I was finally inspired to make them into a cute tote for a little girl.
I added a cheery lining from a fabric I scored at a yard sale ( I think I got like 8 yards and I paid $2). I made the straps from a pair of kids jeans (passed along from a neighbor getting rid of her son's old jeans) and that is where the pocket came from as well.
I feel like the tote needs a little punch on the outside to make it a little more fun! Suggestions are welcome.

Refashion Co-op Newbie
Greetings all!
I am so happy that someone took the initiative to start a new site and continue in the spirit of Wardrobe Refashion. A little bit about me. I love to sew from new fabrics, previously loved fabrics, and alter existing clothing into something new and wonderful. I am a lover of all things handmade. I live in Georgia but am originally from the Midwest. I have just begun to sell items I make (participated in my first craft show last weekend - Woo-hoo). I am showing a few pieces I have done in the past. I look forward to doing some fun and funky stuff in the future. Skirt from Men's XL T-shirt
Skirt for my daughter made from her old jeans and new fabric for the flounce
Updated black T-shirt with a ruffle made from old leggings and another old t-shirt
